Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

According to the onboard computer (which I reset right before hitting the road), I averaged ~71mph and ~26.4mpg.

Then I'll wash it and get some clean pics as well.

Anyone know if I can open it and just replace a battery, or if im doing something wrong?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My flight leaves at 7am my time and after a short stop over I land in Dallas around 1230. Car is still at the shop getting the RMS, clutch, brakes and an oil change all done. May be done later than planned (
) but will be ready tomorrow. I'm pretty excited.
Any of you dallas guys ever go to Autohans in Addison? They're doing the work.
Otherwise I should be in the drivers seat in less than 24 hrs and driving back up to CT. I may have some time to kill tomorrow afternoon is anyone if around and bored. All depends when they finish the work. So if youre around and bored let me know. Ive never been to TX before, so I dont know what to do to keep busy.
Should I worry about rock chips on the drive home? Lots of ppl on the bmw forum im part of tape up the nose of their cars w/ blue painters tape on very long drivers bc apparently the roads are rockier outside of the northeast. Should I be worried about getting pummeled with rocks?
You should be good. We've got concrete here in Big D now and you can stay on the pavement darn near the entire trip. You might have to jump some creeks since the rain floated some of the bridges away last week.
Sorry Skoot, i couldn't resist. I saw your car online and I understand why you want it to stay that way. It's really sweet. Enjoy.
It's those creeks that make it tough.
I was more worried about as I cut through the middle of the country. I just assume some of those roads are long and in the middle of no where, and probably dont get swept as frequently as the smaller ones around here, so more debris stays around to fly at you
and thx
What route did you take? I'm debating staying south and coming up the coast if I have extra time. Otherwise may just shoot the middle route.
Did 1 roll of the wide tape (like 1.5") work?
I took Rt.30 out of Dallas to Little Rock and then Rt.40 to Nashville where I spent the night. That's where I made my mistake. I trusted my GPS instead of the mapquest directions and ended up going north through Kentucky & West Virginia. I ended up near Pittsburgh and took the PA turnpike to Philly. I wouldn't recommend taking that route. I'd come up the coast if you have time. I needed to be back Sunday night so I thought I was taking the quickest route. Not so much!
1 roll (1.5") would probably do it. I took a roll of 1" & 1.5", but I took it off when I stopped for the night and retaped it in the morning.
So I got the car today. It's awesome. It wasnt ready as early as I hoped, so we ended up hanging out at the huge mall and that area for a while. Ended up getting the car around 530-6, wandered around looking at the other cars they had in the shop, looked my car over, test drove, did the paperwork. Unfortunately it got way to late to get out on the road as planned, and weather started getting iffy (huge lightning bolts). We ended up grabbing a hotel in Dallas and will be heading out tomorrow. Looks like I wont be making it to Atlantic City, but I'm going to figure out the rest of the trip now.
Car is awesome. Looks beautiful. For it's age its in great shape. They just gave it a fresh oil change, front pads, new rms and intermediate seal and clutch which was what delayed it today. Saved me $2k+ in future maintenance. The guys that own Monroe were top notch. I would highly recommend them and will have no problem doing business with them again.
I did find out that my key apparently is dead. The buttons dont work to unlock/lock the car. Anyone know if I can open it and just replace a battery, or if im doing something wrong? I found out the hard way that you only have 10 seconds to turn the car on if you open it by key before the alarm goes off. Woops.
Car drives perfectly. It's missing one or two tiny little trim pieces which I'll piece together. Leather (full) is incredible. Paint is beautiful. I'm happy. I'm really excited for the trip back to CT once I figure out where Im going and get that out of the way.
But any help on that key would be awesome.
Pics from the dealership are
here
, and are better than I can take, but I will post more when I get home.
Will do
Now just to finalize the sale of my M3
edit: I think the key fob battery is dead. I thought it was that 5 day sleep thing, but there's no light illuminating. I'll have to replace the battery
Awesome thanks Chao! I'll go grab that battery on my way up. About to leave Dallas now. I wish it was sunnier. Going to Lexington tonight. About 12hrs of driving give or take. Ill update when I get there.
Looking forward to seeing pics... when I bought my car a couple of yeras ago, I picked it up in Kansas and drove it to Charlotte... one of the greatest drives ever!
If changing the key battery doesn't work you need to reprogram the key$150(only the dealer can do this) or get a new one $400
You did get two keys with the car? Welcome to the Porsche Key Club $$
weather doesnt matter, these cars are built to drive on the autobahn in winter at speed... be safe, enjoy it, relax and feel the love........ wasn't it worth the wait
pics of dirty P-cars that just came across country are acceptable !
Well I made it home safely. Got in around 4am last night. Almost 1800 miles and about 30 hours on the road (included short rest times for food and gas). It was a great drive. The car is filthy, especially the nose which is covered in all sorts of bugs. I'll get some pics in a few. My camera died on the drive back up so I have to find the charger. Then I'll wash it and get some clean pics as well. Overall it was a really nice drive. Some states were much nicer than others. It was a fantastic way to really get to know the car better. Ive already gotten a ton of compliments too!
The car wasn't ready Thursday afternoon as I had planned, so I ended up getting set back about a full day. I started in Dallas and had expected to make it to either Little Rock or Memphis by Thurs night, but ended up staying in Dallas Thursday instead. Beautiful city/area. I need to get there soon for a few days to get a better feel for it. The dealer was fantastic. We ended up heading out Friday morning around 10am and driving up to Lexington, KY. It was something like 950 miles. I learned that I never want to see Arkansas again, and that rural KY shuts down pretty early. Made it to the hotel around 2am (we lost an hour to the time change from CST to EST). Crashed for the night, and got out later Sat than planned. I was supposed to be in Atlantic City Sat night, but realized after not getting out Thurs that it wouldnt happen, so I scrapped that plan. I think we got out around 11-12 on Sat. Slept in a bit, got a bite to eat. Drove up through Ohio, into PA and then toward CT. PA goes on forever. Ive done this drive before (from KY to CT) about 2 years ago. PA didn't get any shorter than I remembered. I slowed it down a bunch too for the last few hours bc there were deer all over the place.
Had to go pick up a car at the Westchester airport, and came back to CT after that. Got in around 4am and was more than ready for bed. I would do the trip again in a heart beat, but I would do it over 3 days instead of 2 (at least, more if I could so I could sight see). Some of the roads were dark and lonely at night, so I'd do it again just driving during daylight.
But that's pretty much the trip. I've eaten more fast food in the last 2 days than I'd ever like to do again. I'm going to make a nice breakfast now and go get pics of the new car. Then I have to wash both this and the M3 and get back to real life.
According to the onboard computer (which I reset right before hitting the road), I averaged ~71mph and ~26.4mpg. Not bad considering that included the rest detours too. I'll get the exact mileage, but it's prob like 1775.
