If these were P-Zeros tires, which I had before this, I would be changing the rear tires out in another 1,000 miles.

I'll assume it's like running on a spare.

Based on my search, the only totally safe way to flip tires to extend tire life is to use non-directional symmetrical tires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have Continental Contactsport 2's on my '99 996. The inside of the rear tires are very worn, but the rest of the tire is practically new. I know I need a camber adjustment, at least. My question is, can I "flip" the tire on the rim so the most unused portion of the tire is on the inside? The tire has "outside" marked, but I see no pattern on these tires that would dictate a specific rotation direction. I only need to do this for a couple of weeks. Other that possible road noise, what should be my concerns?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just did a search on this topic, and it's been covered VERY well. Guess I shoulda done that 1st It is interesting reading, if you are considering it. If I do try it, I will NOT run in the rain. I'll assume it's like running on a spare. Do it for a SHORT time until I can get the new ones in and get scheduled at the dealer.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK. Based on my search, the only totally safe way to flip tires to extend tire life is to use non-directional symmetrical tires. BUT, if I use this combination, I can in effect double the tire life, particularly on the rear by flipping say every 10,000 miles. That would put new rubber where the most wear occurs, the inside. My new question is: What is a good tire that's non directional AND symmetrical? My Conti CCS's don't qualify. Any thoughts or experience???

POST 4Original post

It sounds like you have too much negative camber in the rear. You just have to understand that 911's eat rear tires for breakfast. Is it really worth it to go to all the trouble to "flip" the tires? Personally, I don't think it is. Get the car aligned and go from there. I have attached OEM alignment specs you can use as a reference. Make sure you tell Mike or Quintin (Hendrick Porsche service managers) to give you a pre-alignment and post-alignment print out of the alignment specs, which they did NOT do for me. You have to ask. I really like my PS2 tires. I have 8,485 miles on them and they are holding up very well. It looks like I will get another 8,000 to 9,000 miles out of the rears. If these were P-Zeros tires, which I had before this, I would be changing the rear tires out in another 1,000 miles. I hope this helps.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I was thinking too much negative camber also, but in reading the search, it looks like most complained of wear on the inside. Since I don't track this car, I'll talk to Eurowerks about how much camber I really need.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
