rear windshield wiper (NE people recommend for the nasty weather IF using as a daily driver)

Yup if you live in the northeast and plan on driving the car then I would highly recommend the rear wiper.

Bi-xenons (because I do a lot of night time driving think xenons change the look of the car, but on the other hand I think they may draw more unwanted attention from the cops)

Wachuko _ I don't know if I can change my order but sounds tempting.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

karlooz - i heard that the Bose is indeed good, but still not great and in comparison to the Cayenne Bose, obviously not in the same league.
HI,
Just put down a deposit for an April build C4S. I was going to wait for the 997 4's but who knows when they are being released and couldn't wait that long. Besides this will put me in good timing for trading in for a 998
Here is the car:
Slate Grey exterior (love that dark grey)
Graphite Grey interior
options:
Rain Sensor / Dimming Mirrors
Bi-Xenons
Porsche Sport Exahust
Heated Seats (I am one of those who use them all-year-round)
PCM (have it on the Cayenne and now can't imagine life without it)
I was only able to get 2K off
I don't know if the order is final - what would you have added or taken out?
James
We just put down a deposit on 2004 C4S as well
5% off MRSP, May production, seems like a decent deal.
Went very easy on options:
tech - xenons, auto-dimming mirrors/rain sensor, heated seats
looks - porsche crests in head rests, rear center console in exterior colour
Arctic silver on black...
The wait begins...
In your case, I'd want at least something to break up the totally grey interior (hence the rear center console in exterior colour in my case), and I don't know about the usefulness of Nav, though, I haven't used it in my daily driver for ages now. Otherwise you seem to be right on the mark!
Congrats!
I would get the advanced technic package (P83) which gives you:
342 heated seats
446 wheel caps w/color crest
680 Bose sound package
692 Remote CD changer
P11 Rain sensor / dimming mirros
P16 PCM
P74 Bi-Xenons w./ washers
$6,570
I also really, really like the Y06 Aluminum shifter and break handle... much nicer shifter and the break handle has "PORSHCE"... looks great. $885
Nice to haves...
513 Lumbar support right seat $385
586 Lumbar Support left seat $385
982 Supple Leather Front and Rear $395
Since you are getting the Graphite Grey interior I would also get the steering column covered in leather XNS $315 - so the column isn't black.
That's about it!
Rob
I also have an April production C4S with similar options as above. I added the BOSE, carbon fiber shifter, factory short shifter, and aluminum dials. Black on Black car. I had difficulty deciding on the BOSE because the stock radio is not great - but I also didn't want to tear the car apart putting in an upgraded unit once I got the car. What do you think? Any experience out there with the BOSE? Is it adequate?
Thanks
i agree with the bose. it really sounds pretty good. you must remember that with the most system, it is almost impossible to upgrade your sound system after you take delivery, so taking the bose is a practical way to get good sound. i would also get the supple leather.
I'd recommend the following options:
Bi-Xenon's
Bose stereo
Aluminum gauges, stainless door sills, dual exhaust chrome tips
deviated stitching on door, dash and seats - speed yellow
heated sport seats with speed yellow painted hardshell backs
speed yellow seat belts
aluminum / leather shifter and parking brake combo
speed yellow center console
Then again I'm biased, that's what I ordered. Also I got it for about 2K over invoice, but I've heard with the dollar vs. euro rate now that dealer's aren't going that low anymore.
Oh and no supple leather on sport seats...
i too have the lumbar support and it is nice. came with my used purchase (didn't have it my boxster) but man, UNBELIEVABLE, OUTRAGEOUS prices for extra support for the lumbar. all it is firmer foam! you can't even adjust it like on a benz! aarrggghhhh!!!!
looks like I am going to have dig deeper in my wallet. How bout I just get a turbo?
I think I am definately going with the lumbar support and also may have to add some aesthetic options such as the aluminum shifter.
I was also thinking that the bose might not be worth it because of the PSE, but it may come in handy in traffic jams. And besided isn't the C4S's Hi-Fi a standard upgrade from Carrera stereo's anyway?
Oh and also what do people think about the rear winshield wiper? Do you use it? Is it ever necessary?
Thank you all for the feedback
Rob, I PM'ed you
OK... Yup if you live in the northeast and plan on driving the car then I would highly recommend the rear wiper. I have one on my 01 C4 and it's very useful. I also recommend the BOSE upgrade, and if you look at the options in your car, I think you wouldn't be spending that much more for the advanced technic package that includes it.
Rob
SorTurbo,
You may want to break up that all grey interior with deviating carbets and or stitching. Otherwise the car sounds like a dream...
There are certain interior aesthetics that are also available after-market, so you might want to price the difference (factory v aftermarket)...for example, you might consider having the center console paint body color.
Oh almost forgot, the seats, have you tried sport seats. I have regular seats and found them to feel tighter up top than sport seats (sounds counter intuitive I know) since the sport seats have those wing things. May want to consider this if you are broad shouldered. If you do go with sport seats you can opt for body color backs as well. But sit in them to make sure you like them...
Congrats, hope the wait doesn't kill ya...
congratz!
mine came off the lot with full leather and bose...in the cab there is one sub instead of two but that thing bumps!
i like both these options very much...the car smells and sounds amazing!
I decided to go with the regular seats over the sport seats at the last moment for my March/04 C4S Cab - it's the only way to get power seats with memory, plus you get the side mirrors to go down in reverse to protect those HREs I've ordered! Once you order the sport seats, paint the backs the exterior color (what I had on my last cab), order the power function (that doesn't come with memory), it was like $5K more than just going with the (included) power seats....
Ok guys - thanks a TON for the input
here is the finalized deal
Slate Grey exterior
Graphite Grey interior
options:
1. rear windshield wiper (NE people recommend for the nasty weather IF using as a daily driver)
2. rain sensor / auto dimming mirrors (have this on the Cayenne and I think it is a great creature comfort)
3. Bi-xenons (because I do a lot of night time driving think xenons change the look of the car, but on the other hand I think they may draw more unwanted attention from the cops)
4. PSE (didn't order BOSE, but usually I find myself turning the stereo down in the Cayenne to hear the sweet P-car engine music)
5. heated front seats (I use them all year round and aftermarket ones suck!!!)
6. lumbar support - driver and passenger (can't be comfortable while my hunny isn't)
7. center console in exterior color (seems that many seem to think that plain Graphite interior is dull)
8. deviated stitching - seats (black) never seen it, but I hope it is a good touch
9. aluminum shifter / parking brake (seems popular)
10. PCM (used to use the direct connect thingy in my MERC but comared to NAV it sucks)
11. one very happy and excited Pcar guy who is open to mod suggestions for the future
oh and I stuck with the regualr seats to get lumbar support and not have to pay a premium of 1500 for electric package (I think that is the premium charge with sport seats)
Thank you all again!!!
ya sure about the BOSE? my stock HIFI package really sucks!!! if you plan on upgrading the stereo aftermarket then you can definitely get better than BOSE but if not, you would be stuck with a very mediocre sound system.

Go with the BOSE over PCM, PCM is a waste. If you want those big heavy electric seats in the car go ahead, but I'll take the lighter sport seats any day. As for painting the console or seat backs yourself, yes you can do it, but I've never seen one look as good as the ones from the factory so if you think you will do that later, might as well bite the bullet and order it now. What color stitching did you get to deviate with your grey seats???
Ghost Rider - Why do you think PCM is a waste? I have it on my Cayenne and I think it's a great option. I don't care if I get lost anymore, granted that I do. I think Nav is a good option to have in general and if not PCM what aftermarket navigation systems are available in the same price range? I would rather not get a nice aftermarket system that would require 10 times $90 to have installed plus the cost of the unit.
I guess the seats will be a bit heavier but oh well. I would like to get painted seat backs, but I think I have done enough to the interior. black deviated stitching on the seats.
Nacelle - is this an easy aftermarket DIY. I would love to do it myself
karlooz - i heard that the Bose is indeed good, but still not great and in comparison to the Cayenne Bose, obviously not in the same league. I guess I will pass
Thanks everyone, now I have to wait 4 months!!!
SorTurbo,
I'm not saying Nav systems are bad, just saying the PCM one sucks as compared to some others. Take a look at a Lexus or the new Infiniti DVD based NAV systems and you'll see just how outdated the PCM system is. if you have it in your Cayenne, all the more reason to skip it in the 911, if you need to use a nav system to get somewhere take your cayenne. I'm just saying your $$$ would be better spent on other options and yes you can get a nice aftermarket system for between $1200 and 2K easy.
You'll never have the 911 sound the same as the Cayenne because the Cayenne has so much more interior volume and that affects the sounds you hear. If you don't want to go aftermarket rip and replace, then go BOSE, if you want to go aftermarket then skip the Bose.
Black stitchin on grey seats, take a pic of that, not sure I've seen that combo before, I have seen red on grey and it surprised me in that it looked pretty good.
thanks Nacelle - I will def look into that
Wachuko _ I don't know if I can change my order but sounds tempting. Would you say that it is harder to drive with one hand with the thicker wheel though?
Ghost - you have a PM
