Suggestion

I hear that the new c4s cab is much more rigid so it would seem logical that the 997 will use the same engineering.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone Which is more popular overall cab or coupe.I personally like the top down experience myself but feel that the coupes look better.Im going to trade in my 03 c4 cab on a 997 and am trying to decide which one.My friend has an xj220 and that was our debate today. 03 c4 cab meridian metallic full leather carbon fiber park assist flared rocker panels litronics red belts headrest crests

POST 3Original post

nobody shoot me, but i'm not a fan of the 996 convertible shape! the coupe looks amazing, but IMHO something gets lost when they translate the shape into a convertible. i'm also of the opinion that a 911 should be a coupe because they're basically race cars in street guise... you add extra weight and lose structural rigidity when you go to the cab. that's not to say that in the future if i had the money for 2 p-cars i wouldn't get one coupe and one cab if the shape of the cab appealed to me a little more!

POST 4Original post

Meridian Metallic C4 Cab here too! How often do you take the top down? How often do you/will you track the car? That should pretty much tell you if you should go cab or not. The coupe will definitely be a more solid car (presumably less squeaks and rattles), and will weight a little less, but then you lose the open air feeling...

POST 5Original post

I also agree with you. Have both a coupe and a cab I think the coupe is more complete is its form. However, I've gotten more compliments on my cab in a very short time and it has the hard top on it. When the spring comes and that top goes down it sure will make a statement! People really dig the hard time concept - it really is the best of both worlds. Oh, and if this is important to you - chicks dig the drop top

POST 6Original post

I agree with Teflon Jones. And you yourself said it: the coupe looks better. I was actually originally in the market for a Boxster S. I wanted a ragtop for my mid-life crisis. And I thought the Boxster S, designed from the ground up as a ragtop, was a better convertible than the 911. But, I just got blown away by the C4S. The choice is yours. You can't go wrong either way.

POST 7Original post

Go Targa! Probably won't be available in 997 version for awhile. Advantages: 1.Virtually same shape, rigidity and security as coupe. 2.Even with top closed, there is still a great panorama view through the smoked glass roof. 3.If the top's wide open, and you enter the freeway, receive a call (where legal or course), get hit with a sudden rainstorm, or just get tired of the wind noise, a touch of the button closes things up again. I find that in conditions where I might put the top up in my convertible because of a threat of rain, I have no hesitation at opening the Targa roof, thus increasing my open air time. Disadvantages: 1.Almost as heavy as cab. 2.With the top open, visibility is decreased through the rear glass (if this is a problem at the time a push of the button takes care of things) 3.Although it's enough of an open air experience for me, it's not as wide open as the cab.

POST 8Original post

Having attended a number of P-Car gatherings, I can tell you that the coupe is certainly the better seller. Having said that, I live in SoCal and very rarely put the top up on my C4 Cab. I also beleive that the coupe is a more rigid structure, so if you intend to track the car, which I am not, I would get a coupe.

POST 9Original post

Have to agree w/ Dave. I almost never put my top up too. Peter

POST 10Original post

Ask yourself...and answer truthfully...how many days will you actually have the top down? Then ask yourself if you think those days are worth the extra money and potential problems that might come with a cab. If that doesn't scare you and you think you'll get good use out of one, go for the cab. If not, a sunroof coupe can still give you fresh air fun. Oh, and just as a vote, I think the coupe is better looking. If you want a good looking convertible, get a Boxster.

POST 11Original post

I would only cab, even in the NE. Buy SUV for bad weather.

POST 12Original post

Ask yourself how many times are you gonna have the top down?!! Ask yourself how many days you are actually at the track!!! All cars, including P-cars, are compromises. Which ones do you want? Do you really think the extra weight of a cab detracts from the driving experience? I like the looks of the cab, I like the targas ... too bad I can't be like Jerry Seinfield and have a bunch!

POST 13Original post

P-car meets and gathering may not be representative of the coupe/cab balance. A lot of enthusiasts get coupes because of the weight and rigidity and price. But that's not to say that an enthusiast can't love a cab, too. Personally, I wanted the light weight. It's a big part of why I chose this car over the M3. But I don't think the coupe looks better than the cab at all. I really like the way the 996 cab looks.

POST 14Original post

On those nice days, the value of having a cab shoots up exponentially! Even if I am in slow traffic, I enjoy my cab a lot more than the coupe, if I can have the top down. The c4s was definitely more rigid and more solid feeling than my cab but it is all relative. The cab is rigid enough in my opinon and I have an older 2001. I hear that the new c4s cab is much more rigid so it would seem logical that the 997 will use the same engineering. I don't track my cars so I ended up selling my c4s recently. Lastly, for whatever reason, I get a lot more stares and oogles from the c4s coupe than when I am in my cab but I imagine the girls like the cab more.

POST 15Original post

Cab is the only way to go... C4S cab if you can swing it!

POST 16Original post

Buy a coupe and for around the same difference in price, get a 964 carbiolet or a G-50 cabriolet.

POST 17Original post

I think most everyone agrees how good a Cab looks with the top down. I also like the hardtop look. The "Porsche lines" are still evident and you have the added benefit of having all 4 windows down. (not in this pic tho)

POST 18Original post

I'm with Don. For me the Cab is the best of both worlds. However I think you also have to consider where you live. I have a hard top but haven't had the urge to put it on this winter. My Cab is a daily driver and I have the top down most of the time. There's nothing like going to work with the fresh air all around you. Being a Floridian I give up and put the top up when the temp drops below 50f.
