Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

But the point was that the city planners say they are out of money but that the poor saps on the west-southwest part of the 540 (still not built) want to drive it they need to pay but the people in North Raleigh get their section for free.

NC senate considers front plate: http://nceuro.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6820

POST 2Original post

Are they F'in serious??? They can't even keep the paint on the plates we already have. One of the few states that hasn't moved to laser printed plates. All I see is plates that have so much paint chipped and missing that you can't even make out the plate and now they want to add another??? Not a chance in hell. Does this idiot of a senator have a "good" rationale as to why this would be a good thing or one that benefits the good people of the state of NC??? Maybe they should concentrate their efforts on producing plates that keep their paint for more than a year or better yet, finish 540 in the RDU area instead of making a tollroad to finish it. I am sure there are many other projects as well that should be done.

POST 3Original post

Although I certainly don't want some nasty old license plate cluttering up the front of my beautiful por-sha, I would like to know more details before I go firing off letters to my state representatives. But the original post has no links to the proposed bill, or even a copy of it. This is rampant Internet exploitation gone mad! Let's all scream about something that might not even be true! Protest now, before you have the facts! AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh! Anyway, that said, I have to disagree with Dell on the 540 tollroad. I think all roads should be toll roads. Priority at stop lights, traffic lights, etc. should be given to the vehicle(s) that pay the most taxes. Why should I, in my $91,000 (original MSRP) imported luxo-sports-vehicle have to yield to some bozo in a 1983 Nissan Sentra with the entire left side caved in and with only one operation headlight, pointed in the general direction of Mecca? Screw that, let him wait for me. And why should I, as a taxpayer, have to pay for the 540 bypass when I'll rarely if ever use it? I'll pay a couple of bucks when I use it, that will be fine, take my saved tax dollars and fix all the damn potholes in Cary why don't you? Good God man, for one of the most upscale cities in NC, we sure have the ****tiest streets. Anyway... I'm anti-front-plate, but I'd like to know more before I protest. Michael

POST 4Original post

Michael that is a good point but as for the 540, I would never drive it but rather tried to make a point. There is NO way to make all the roads toll roads. But the point was that the city planners say they are out of money but that the poor saps on the west-southwest part of the 540 (still not built) want to drive it they need to pay but the people in North Raleigh get their section for free. And yes Cary is upscale and yes there are potholes but not on my side. That's why I chose west Cary! You must be referring to the "orignial" parts of Cary I agree though, I watch the news EVERY morning and evening and have never heard about this senate bill. A little more clarification would be nice. But Eric wasn't the OP but rather the messenger. So be nice and don't shoot him. But then again we all know what Eric has at stake in this fight Time to get your butt up to Raleigh and start $lobbying$ Eric

POST 5Original post

Maybe the NC inmates are running out of things to do, so if they go with two plates they will double the workload to keep the inmates busy. Two plates should be allowed only in the buffet line! Seriously, two plates? NO WAY!

POST 6Original post

Dell, I have a sneaking suspicion that this is revenue related. After all, red light cameras, laser speed detection equipment, and the like all function much better with front plates. I hope you win it!!

POST 7Original post

You are probably right Ray. But I will just do like I did in Las Vegas where there was a front plate requirement and I didn't have one for the entire 4 years I was there on the 996CAB. I just didn't let the clearbra company cut the openings for the plate where the holes were in the bumper and then I threw the plate assembly in the front boot. If I was ever pulled over I would tell the cop that I have the entire plate assembly, show it to him, and explain that I just had the clear bra installed and that it has to cure for "x" number of days before it can be cut to accomodate the plate. Needless to say I NEVER, repeat NEVER, got a ticket.

POST 8Original post

Crazy people up there in Raleigh!!! Just sent out 19 emails!! Took only 5 minutes. Changed the beltline suggestion to finishing up 485 in Charlotte though!

POST 9Original post

You forget that I live very close to you. How do you get to work? Do you not have to go through downtown, or on Maynard? Cary Parkway? These roads are getting pretty beat up. I saw you one day ripping down High House in your ever-so-subtle BRIGHT FREAKIN' YELLOW GT3 but I was driving my Infinitniniti and figured that you wouldn't talk to a commoner. Yes, I know it wasn't Eric's fault. But... hmmm, maybe if they pass the law, then I can get a better price when he has his clearance sale on the plugs. Slate grey please, Eric. Michael

POST 10Original post

What's with Cary anyway? I can't go over there without getting lost. The roads all seem to point in three directions. Dell, you need to drive that ever-so-subtle BRIGHT FREAKIN' YELLOW GT3 around up here in N. Raleigh & RTP every once in a while so we can see it too. Just say no to front plates...

POST 11Original post

Oddly enough there is another Rennlister (Charles) that has a BRIGHT FREAKIN YELLOW GT3 as well and he lives up in North Raleigh. You should see him at some point. It's scary how similar our cars are. We actually had lunch together recently down here in Cary and parked the cars next to eachother in the parking lot (I know, cheezy) but let's just say it looked like a freakin tourist attraction with the number of people stopping, getting out of their cars, and snapping as many pics as they could. By the way, I understand your frustration with the streets. Maynard and Cary PKWY all have 4 directions you can travel since they are both (mini) loops. It's pretty freaky to cross the same street TWICE in a matter of a mile or two Of course I would talk to a "commoner". Remember, you aren't a commoner, but rather traveling INCOGNITO that day As for my commute I cruise down Weston to Evans and then shoot up aviation to 40. Nice high speed roads and the quickest way to the interstate. By the way, if you saw me on Weston then I would have been rippin it up. Something about that stretch of road that SCREAMS to be driven

Received this reply last night... boilerplate, but if this bill didn't exist, you would probably not gt the reply... Dear Wouter, It is good to hear from you. I very much appreciate representing you in the North Carolina Senate. I am very interested in your concern. I appreciate your letter and understand your concerns in regards to Senate Bill 673 and dual license plates on vehicles. Again, thank you for your input. Please, feel free to contact my office with any other questions or concerns. Many Thanks, Senator Joe Sam Queen North Carolina Senate - District 47 16 W. Jones Street Room 1117 Raleigh, NC 27601-2808 [phone removed] [email removed]

POST 13Original post

Here's a link to the actual bill: http://ftp.legislature.state.nc.us/g...&BillID=SB+673 It doesn't specify why they want to pass this, but knowing our state legislature, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason. They've probably out-sourced the manufacture of license plates, and the company that now makes them has bribed several of our highly qualified and historically corrupt representatives. Dell makes a good point though - what are the odds of getting ticketed for it anyway? I mean really, think about it; unless you are speeding or driving drunk or doing something else that would cause you to get pulled over, I doubt that a typical LEO is going to bother with you. Unless you are hispanic. Or black. Or a black hispanic. Then you are in trouble! And for those of you who think I'm joking, I'm not. Profiling still goes on, even in these enlightened times. If the bill passes, my plan is to buy some of those really cool bumper plugs and just tell the officer that I am waiting to receive my special Porsche bumper plug removal tool (with instructions) and license plate mounting bracket (part # 4432-5345-75689-232-6456-7-7-121-125672378) which is on back-order from Germany. Then I'll have to schedule a time at my authorized Porsche maintenance center and have them do it, so I don't void the warranty. I only see it being a problem when you buy a new car, and the dealer will probably have to, by law, install the front plate bracket. HEY! This will certainly increase the values of our 996s!!! Soon no one (in NC) will want to buy a 997 with those hideous front bumper license plate brackets, and everyone will be looking for the last good year of water cooled cars, and then we can all sit around all smug and have endless threads on how valuable our cars are and how they stopped depreciating in 2001 and as long as we never drive them, will be worth millions by the time we die. Michael

POST 14Original post

Michael you put a great expanation to the whole thing. I especially like the "last of the great water-cooled P-cars" comment.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I already send my senators money and keep in touch. They know me well enough to know I'm not going to kneejerk either.

POST 16Original post

Road pricing they are talking about in the Uk accomplishes this. abolish fuel tax and you pay for what roads you go on and at what time of the day

POST 17Original post

..operative word is talk. It will not happen in the UK either.
