get pics of it post it, most likely the suspension is going to need to be changed out, maybe clutch, etc........

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at a 1999 996 Cabrio - excellent interior/exterior condtion, 85k miles, $28k - getting a PPI at a dealership before I purchase. Any positive/negative feedback? Additional things I should look out for? Also what kind of maintenance should I expect over the next 10k and 20k miles? thanks, every little bit helps.

POST 2Original post

well.... get a really good PPI, if you can get the history of the car that would be great......in terms of maintance, every 5K oil change it........ get pics of it post it, most likely the suspension is going to need to be changed out, maybe clutch, etc........ i would see if you can get something with a little less milage for another 2K.....

POST 3Original post

Look for RMS issues...search this site and you will get more information on RMS than you can actually digest. In my opinion, this is very expensive for a 99 with that many miles. For instance, I would expect my '00 below to fetch low $30Ks (interested )...with only $50K miles and a year newer...

POST 4Original post

That price doesn't seem out of line to me for a cab in excellent condition, even with the 85k miles. As with any used car buy, there is always something that will need fixing in the first year so you may want to earmark a couple of thousand dollars just to be safe. With 85k miles the RMS may have already been replaced. A good PPI at a reputable independent is key. Good luck.
