If the picture in your thread is of your car, well then someone installed one on your car (and didnt do it very well i might add) Newer NA cars (starting 2002 if i remember correctly) are now running a returnless fuel delivery system.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How important is the fuel cooler and what are the ramifications of running without it?

POST 2Original post

Should add HP and prevent vapor lock. Other than that...no big deal.

POST 3Original post

The 996 does not have a fuel cooler so you won't miss it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually, starting in '01 the 996 C2 does have a fuel cooler. It is located under the intake. It cools the fuel after it has passed through the rails on its way back to the tank. Mine is shown with the wrong AC pipe.

POST 6Original post

Umm.. No it doesnt. Only TT are equiped from the factory with a fuel cooler. If the picture in your thread is of your car, well then someone installed one on your car (and didnt do it very well i might add) Newer NA cars (starting 2002 if i remember correctly) are now running a returnless fuel delivery system. This also helps eliminate heat soaking the fuel and helps eliminate added fuel vapors in the tank.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dude, you are so wrong. This fuel cooler is stock on my car. The PET shows it is on all US 996's from '01 on. The reason mine looks poorly installed is that it is just hanging there with no AC piping to mount it to, This is because it will not clear the new intake. So it is tie wrapped in place. Edit: It does appear you are right about the '02 and later having a no-return fuel rail.

POST 9Original post

The fuel cooler was also fitted to the 3.4 litre engine from model year 99 if the X51 engine power upgrade was installed. X51 was not available to the USA. Ciao, Adrian.

POST 10Original post

Yes i take that all back. Looked it up today at work, 99-up to 02 returnless fuel. Owned, damn it. What kind of intake wont letcha run it where its at?

POST 12Original post

you will likley never notice the diffrence i wouldnt even think twice about it
