Now that the car is out of warranty I would like to know if there are any reputable mechanics in the South Miami area that can replace the tank and what can I expect a reasonable cost for this to be?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok so it looks like my coolant tank has failed. I came home after a short "spirited drive" as I've heard others refer to, only to come out later and find the dreaded pool on coolant on my garage floor dripping from the drivers side rear tailpipe. The same thing happened a couple of years ago when the car was still under warranty and was replaced by dealer. Now that the car is out of warranty I would like to know if there are any reputable mechanics in the South Miami area that can replace the tank and what can I expect a reasonable cost for this to be? Also are there any aftermartket or upgraded tanks made by porsche or others that can last more than a couple of years? After reading many posts it seems this is an accepted manufactured defect and no one has come up with a long term replacement. Is there anything new out there to end this once and for all? Thanks for your help as well as your help in the past. Joe C.

POST 2Original post

depending on what year the car is will depend on how much the tank itself is. 150 or so and 320 or so. i have never heard of an aftermarket tank. But i will say I Change alot less tanks these days ( like 1 every other month ) then i used to ( like 2-3 a week) so possibly porsche has redesigned them and not told anybody.

POST 3Original post

Small puddle could be just a worn-out coolant cap. Take off cap and see if there's any moisture around lip of coolant tank.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well as long as engine was warm the collant kept dripping. The small puddle became a bigger one. Now that car has cooled off the drips stopped. The area around the cap showed no signs of leaking except some dried coolant residue. When I opened the cap I could feel pressure release. Does this still sound like a tank failure? Thanks Joe C.
