Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 2Original post

anybody using one of these ? tempting even though the price push our cars in 996 TT territory very quickly. it make little sense to add a turbo, unless you take into account the lower weight of the base 996

POST 3Original post

Porsche 996 C2 With TPC Turbo Kit Installed Boosted on Dyno - YouTube how is the kit protected from all road projections in the rear fender well ? do you have something to enclose it ? if not these silicon pipe are under heavy stress there.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You do not want the system enclosed for efficiency purposes. The components are safe where they are located. The silicone hoses are very strong and hold up very well on the street as well as on the track.

POST 5Original post

Is that Turbo and exhaust and piping modular? Or they are one unit... Is there a noticeable lag, who makes the turbo?

POST 6Original post

how much cost the liquid to liquid cooling part so that the kit can be used on the track .. in a reliable way ?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10907711

On our 911 kits, the intercooler is included and part of the system.

POST 8Original post

the turbo seems to be quite a ways from the exhaust port. Thats gotta make efficiency a bit difficult, no?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10913857

The system is very efficient. Exhaust gasses travel extremely fast, making for an efficient system without lag.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 10914120

not so much about speed, more about heat.

POST 11Original post

Is it really ever a good idea to use high CR and low boost? The stock high CR M96 is just not a good candidate as is for TC'ing or SC'ing. Especially since its a marginal engine in stock form. A better solution would be to install the correct pistons before TC'ing but by then your well into TT money. A much better solution would be to sell the car and buy a TT. Now go ahead and tell me Im an idiot then I'll show you a link to similar thoughts from a "real expert". This is a shame because it would be nice to improve the power of the rather anemic POS M96 platform.

POST 12Original post

KK, you're thinking 80's old school tech before the modern EFI engines with more sophisticated ECU tuning tech. While I agree it would be more optimal to start off with a closed/semi-closed deck low comp design in the first place. Starting off with a higher comp engine can yield both fuel efficiency and power. I've seen it several times in all those Honduh fools that have done it and done it successfully for quite a few years now. I think Bisi would disagree with you. Also not really cool to shart on a vendor's thread that have had this proven kit on the market for quite some time. Talk to Markar on here if for his long term m96 specific experience with this and quit bench talking...

X2. My last car I ran 35+psi and 10:1. It was awesome, never any issues with detonation. If I ran this setup I most likely wouldn't even run the intercooler. Looks good TPC!

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 10914958

Factory 996 compression with this kit is a perfect match. There isn't an extreme amount of boost and they run strong. I did however go the route of dropping compression but also went with a much larger turbo and will push over 1bar boost.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10914958

If you maintain the car properly, it will last. We just had a 996 C4S with 138,xxx miles leave that has our turbo kit on it and the car runs great and pulls like a freight train!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 10915602

I think a race gas tune is not really in the realm of comparison here.

POST 17Original post

So, this shows that 996 M96 motors can handle another 100 HP. Obvious question comes after that. Why not get a $600 100HP nitrous kit, have it tuned for $400 and receive the same result? Properly tuned nitrous system is just as safe as the turbo kit, and requires much less fabrication. I have a kit laying around from my Acura, I might bolt it to 996 to see what it can do with 125 wet shot. Should be interesting.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 10917254

Apples to oranges IMO. Nitrous requires refilling and not so instantaneous. Are you one of those guys that always has the bottle open or the solenoid on along with a thermostat with a heating blanket to make sure your bottle is always up to temp? This debate has gone on infinitely on every single forum and I hope we can put this to rest.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 10917239

93octane daily driven. Extreme for some maybe, but I was mainly trying to say these motors should have no problem with 5psi and their current compression. As stated earlier this isn't the 80's. Cars have evolved and are capable on whole new levels now.
