Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run 225/265' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace back' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It is certainly much quieter that Yokohama Neova Advans that I ran during summer.

I use Michelin PS2 in summer and have the 240s for winter

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Interesting, I thought the recommendation from Porsche is to downsize to the 265 rear. I achieved this with a 10J rear wheel(down from the 11J)
This was also the same information that I got from TireRack. Narrower tire means better penetration through the snow and less floating over the top of it.
Did you replace rear tires only? How did you compensate for the difference in diameter compared to your summer tires to prevent damage to the AWD system?
When the 996 was made, winter tires did not exist in these sizes. only recently in fact, do we now have an option to keep the 11J rears and find winters for them that have matching circumference fronts.
295/35R18 99 V PIRELLI - W 240 SOTTOZERO S2 N-2 (TL)
235/40R18 91 V PIRELLI - W 240 SOTTOZERO S2 N-2 (TL)
Only driven 30kms on them on dry roads at 5 degrees centigrade, so no comments on their performance on snow yet ;-)
Got all 4 for a very reasonable 1050 fitted! Took 2 trips home to get the summers back however ;-). Must get a roof rack.
each year is different - some years none at all, other years loads Dec through to March. difference now, is that they have brought a law in 2 years ago, making show or m+s tires mandatory in adverse conditions (ice, slush, snow) from 1st november onwards each year. means you're practically obliged to fit them.
Not listed as an acceptable option on the US Pirelli website. Could this be because of circumference discrepancy for the AWD system?
Looked at the Belgium site though and your sizes as listed are listed as acceptable via the tire selection tool - very interesting.
Tire heights for OP's sizes are 26.1" for rears, 25.4" for fronts. It should not cause any AWD problems.
US sites will not list those sizes as "acceptable" because they are not what Porsche recommended and not what cars came with. Factory manual calls for 285/30/18 or 265/35/18 on my 2002 C2. I assume the sizing should be the same for all 18" wheels.
I AM NO TIRE EXPERT. TIRERACK and other sites list the revolutions per 1000 that tires rotate. As explained to me, our 4CS wide bodies, so as not to damage the AWD system, the front & back tires are to turn within a tolerance of 5 revolutions per thousand rotations of each other; meaning the front tire rotates 1000 times and the back should rotate 1000 to 1005 times to closely match; this according to a local mechanic in Carlsbad, CA and the person on the phone at TIRERACK. My tires are 5mm taller than stock, and turn within 1 revolution per thousand of each other, front to back My tires are 225.45.18ZR & 295.35.18ZR - Continental Extremes; great ride for me, quiet softer ride, a bit higher, all weather for some Mammoth Snow, ext.. I mention all of this because your tires measurements are 5 mm different from front to back than mine are. I did not find your brand on a rating chart to see if they were within tolerance of each other, which i'm sure they are, just different from mine. I wish McMaster was following this thread and would commit, as I highly value his mechanical knowledge of these things.
i found the W240 to be extreemly garbage in the snow because they are Cold Performance Tires... i drive a lot and a lot in the snow as well, i needed some SNOW & ICE tires. i have had Falken Euro Winters for 4 winters now and soooooooo much better in the Deep Snow than W240
[QUOTE="Dennis C;10920311"]I'm using Pirelli Winter SnowSport 240s now. They are a very good winter option. I'm quite pleased with them.[/QUOTE
This is the same setup that I am running. It is my first season with the the car(& by default, the tires ) so we shall see how it goes.
It is certainly much quieter that Yokohama Neova Advans that I ran during summer.
