Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Long term I'll probably do what you did and replace the entire PCM1 with a new double-DIN headunit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The stock PCM1 on my 2000 C2 is pretty much worthless for navigation purposes, I don't see the point in buying new discs when my iPhone 5 is a better navigator for free. I'd like to remove the CD drive and install the standard 996 console pocket, does anyone know what the PCM1 will do without the navigation CD drive connected? I figured I would ask before experimenting.

POST 2Original post

it will work fine, i just removed my gps drive and put in the pocket as well. just remember that there is a anti theft cable you will see connected to the cage around the drive, make sure you tape up the end before you throw it back in, as if it touches any metal when you alarm is armed it will give a false signal and set it off. I actually just ripped out the pcm 1 last night as well, installing a kenwood double din with built in gps and bluetooth over the winter.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Long term I'll probably do what you did and replace the entire PCM1 with a new double-DIN headunit. But for now I have higher priority stuff to spend my money on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HVAC controls live down there with a PCM, so that might become challenging. Plus I need a place for misc stuff, this car is my daily driver and doesn't exactly have an abundance of storage as is. But it does look cool as hell.
