I did run my fingers along the front rotors before I drove it and felt some grooves and that it was worn in somewhat below the edges.

If it is ok, I just wanted to share some thoughts on a test drive I did today on a 2003 C4 Cab.

when i was test driving 996s it did seem that my C4 had a heavier clutch than similar MY C2s.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

However, it does get smoother when it warms up but still not as smooth as both 993's
Hi, I considering purchasing a Carrera 4 Coupe or Cabriolet, an was wondering if any fellow rennlist people were wanting to sell their's.
Only real requirements is,
6 speed manual
preferably little to mods
Nice to have but not required
PCM
Xenons
If so, feel free to post here, send me an email or a pm (email preferable)
Also a question, is is possible to retrofit PCM to a non PCM car? Or retrofit a newer cars PCM to an older one (ie. 2004 PCM unit to 2000 car)?
Also I noticed that the 2002-2004 cars have the Climate Control unit installed above the head unit, is it possible to relocate the unit to this location from down below in the pre 2002 cars?
Thanks
Kevin
i haven't thought of selling my 01 C4, but it has all the things you want except for the PCM. not even sure PCM was offered in 01, so i don't know about retrofitting one. i also have a set of slightly used winter tires in 18".
the climate control on my 01 is the on the lowest bay. anyway, go ahead and send me a PM if you want pictures and we'll see if we can work something out. it doesn't hurt to talk.
If it is ok, I just wanted to share some thoughts on a test drive I did today on a 2003 C4 Cab. It has 30k miles and was the first 996 I have driven. There was a few things I noticed and just wanted some feedback from any helpful parties.
The clutch in comparison to my 968 seemed 'much' heavier. I assume this is normal? The shifter assembly seemed loose, when I tapped it back and forth lightly while in neutral it seemed to make some noise or had some play in it.
Also when shifting I felt the engagement of gears was not 'that' smooth, and seemed kind of notchy. When I got right back in my car after driving it my shifter and shifting seemed much smoother. Also when I engaged my clutch it felt like there was no force required at all in comparison to the 996 C4.
I know when you drive a new/different car and get right back in your own car immediately afterward it seems to amplify these sorts of differences.
Lastly, I think this C4 must need rotors or pads as my car seems to stop much stronger, even my gf noticed it wasn't stopping as quickly as my 968 does, and it took some getting used to at first.
when i was test driving 996s it did seem that my C4 had a heavier clutch than similar MY C2s. my shifter doesn't have play in it, so it might just be the car you test drove. as far as "notchiness", mine is a bit before the trans warms up. then it's very smooth. this will change if i get some time to install my B&M SSK.
don't know about brakes. my C4 seems to stop plenty fast and it's at 50% on the pads. i'm planning to put in new pads in the next few months, but i'm considering putting in ceramics. but regardless, the car should feel like it stops quickly. the model you drove might've needed some brake work.
The clutch in my C4S is quite stiff. I know it's not worn as it is brand new. However, it is no stiffer than my 95 C2. Comparison to the TT is unfair as the TT is hydraulically assisted and a 3 year old would find it light.
My brakes are as good as both of my other P cars.
The transmission in the C4S is quite notchy compared to both other cars. However, it does get smoother when it warms up but still not as smooth as both 993's
The clutch in my '99 C4 is heavier than the one in my 951.
+1 on the 996 short shift kit - I really like it.
The brakes should be just as good, or better, than the ones on your 968.
Well thanks for the feedback everyone, appreciated. It would seem that it is likely that it is normal that clutch feel is slightly on the heavier side, but that possibly the brakes need some attention. I did run my fingers along the front rotors before I drove it and felt some grooves and that it was worn in somewhat below the edges. Possibly maybe it might need some rotors and pads.
I am going to have this car checked out by the local independent later this week.
Thanks
Hi Kevin,
Yes, the avatar is my car. Bought new special order from Ray Caytena Porsche. 6 speed. Bose. Lumbar, Seal Grey/Grey Interior, etc. Has about 33,000 miles. Have window sticker and porsche certificate. Garage kept. Zymol 4x/yr. Have all maint records. No major issues. Clock is not keeping time and passenger window drops all the way sometimes. Am trying to figure out how to fix. Replaced battery and tires. Overall, a great car. Use as a commuter 2x/week and to p/u kids from school.
