Suggestion

I don't use a "j pipe", and use a much larger pipe then the first version of PSE.

Suggestion

Porsche later switched to the MK II version which was done using the nipple part of the muffler and connecting a pipe to the outlet (exhaust tip) pipe.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PM me if you have 3.6L cans that you want to sell. Thanks

POST 2Original post

saw a pair on ebay yesterday. OE non PSE for the 3.6

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found and bought! $125 for a pair of 2002s, thanks! Shipping them directly to to Darin for the mod now!

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 5972690

which mod? Stage 1 or Stage 2 How many miles were on the 3.6 mufflers?

POST 5Original post

Chicago - you are going to love the sound. They will actually get a little louder and deeper sounding after you have driven them 300 - 500 miles, which helps the new pipes "burn in."

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks dudes. Supposedly the cans have less than a 1000 miles on them since the owner got a custom SS exhaust and these just sat in his garage. I'm leaning towards Stage II after hearing them on uTube. Emailed Darin about drone on Stage II vs Stage I, and he said that it wasn't a factor. He also prefers the sound of IIs better, so I'm 99% leaning towards II.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 5973270

Yes, do Stage II. You will not regret it!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gota911, do you know anyone here who did Stage II (Darin's terminology) on a 996? It seems everybody talks about Stage I (aka Mk II exhaust mod).

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Long story short, I no longer have the cans and am again searching! I bought them on eBay after someone else won them, who ostensibly was from Canada. Seller didn't want to ship to Canada so he offered them to me and I took them! Now the original "winner" is threatening to sue the seller b/c he wants the cans shipped to upstate new york (not Canada), so the seller has asked me to help him out and being a sucker that I'm, I've agreed. So I'm again searching

POST 10Original post

Threatened to sue? THAT is funny... Good luck finding another set! They show up pretty frequently.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seller sounds like a real decent guy who is in a tough spot now. That's why I have agreed to back out. Will keep my eyes open for another pair though $125 (including shipping) for almost brand new cans was a good deal!

POST 12Original post

I have a lead on a set locally here, I emailed him. He has had them for sale a few times over the last couple months... asking $250 for headers, cans and tips... but not sure the model (3.4-3.6) or the age, I will follow up if they are a good fit for you and NOT for me Ed

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 5974642

Ed, if the mufflers are 3.4L, then don't bother. I first did the MK II mod to 3.4L mufflers and, while it was better thatn stock, I was rather disappointed in the sound. However, when I did the MK II mod to 3.6L mufflers, teh sound was dramatically different and MUCH better. FYI

I don't recall what mod what Darin's terminology of Stage II means. Can you clarify so I can give you an answer?

POST 15Original post

I got EM! And I LOVE EM!!!!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 5975283

Darin's Stage II is a MKI on 3.6 cans. Bypassing the muffler all together. Not using the nipple. Sounds awesome!!

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 5975762

OK, that is more commonly known as the MK I mod, which is how Porsche made the true Porsche Sport Exhaust mufflers in the early 3.4L mufflers. This is also known as the "J-pipe" mod. Porsche later switched to the MK II version which was done using the nipple part of the muffler and connecting a pipe to the outlet (exhaust tip) pipe. I have not heard a MK I (or Stage II in Darrin's terms) mod in person. I have heard a couple of clips and they sounded very much like the MK II mod on 3.6L mufflers.

POST 18Original post

My Stage I and Stage II. Stage I is connecting the unused port on the can to the outlet pipe. Only works on 3.6 cans. Stage II is connecting the inlet and outlet pipes directly. Works on 3.4 and 3.6 cans.(3.6 is preffered). Stage I is a rather mild mod, Stage II is louder and more aggressive. First pic is Stage I, second pic Stage II (on 997S cans)

POST 19Original post

I don't use a "j pipe", and use a much larger pipe then the first version of PSE. Here is a '99 with 3.6 cans with Stage II FSE Stage II Exhaust

POST 20Original post

on your stage II, the cross pipe looks kind of big... I thing they would be too loud for me, I am hoping for the same mod but with ~3/4" - 1" pipe so i dont get too much.... my $0.02

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 5976675

You'd be surprised. It isn't loud.. just sounds much better. When you are on the throttle it sounds more agressive. If you drive easy, it sounds mellow.

POST 22Original post

anyone try both the mods at at the same time on a 3.6?
