Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Sort of resigned to taking it in to my mechanic while discussing the problem with a co-worker when I tried one last time and it worked fine (using the key).

Came back from lunch today (Charlie's Chili, Newport) and when I got back to work I was getting ready to use the key to put the top up.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Came back from lunch today (Charlie's Chili, Newport) and when I got back to work I was getting ready to use the key to put the top up. Body panel moved about 1/2 inch and then nothing. Reversing the operation caused the body panel to re-seat in its normal position. Tried again and again with same results using internal switch as well. I did notice that the hard (forward) portion of the top (in its stowed position) left about 1/2 inch gap from where it should be (pushed to the rear). Couldn't coax anything while trying to activate. Nothing in the way or causing hangup. Sort of resigned to taking it in to my mechanic while discussing the problem with a co-worker when I tried one last time and it worked fine (using the key). What gives? Anyone had a similar problem? Little hesitant about putting the top down this afternoon now. Lost signature 996Pilot 1999 C2 Cabriolet

POST 2Original post

I haven't had a problem with my Cab top yet, but I had a couple with my Boxster top. Given that your top did come back up seems to rule out mechanical failure (cable, etc.) There are three (or more) electrical areas that can fail: 1. microswitch @ parking brake. 2. microswitch @ windshield header. 3. convertible top relay. That your top partially rose then stopped, it's probably not the microswitchs. May be the relay getting ready to die.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So where do I find the relay?? I'll look into it but I don't think that's it as everything starts to function and then just stops after the body panel moves about 3/4 inch up. Nevertheless, where do I find the relay? Dan

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This happened again and I needed to get the top up before this AM so I removed the back panel and opted for the "manual" top extension. It appears now that it is the retracting body panel that is stuck, hung up or jammed somehow as I could not get it to raise manually either. Managed to get the top up but I need to figure out why the body panel won't raise or lower. Any suggestions? Dan
