I think it's accented by the fact that the new shifter has metal inside so it makes a clanking noise against the shifter shaft anytime I change gears.

Lift the boot all the way up and see if there is a set screw underneath that needs to be tightened (5 or 6 mm hex I believe).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had the standard graphite grey shift ****. I've taken it out and put it back on numerous times so I know it's a pretty basic install. However, I bought the Aluminum trim shifter as pictured below and it doesn't fit exactly right. Basically there is some slop when sliding it on the actual shifter itself. If I fully install the shifter, I can wiggle it front to back a few millimeters. I'm not saying that I'm in neutral and there is some wiggle, that is normal. I'm saying that the shift **** will move back and forth on the shifter shaft itself. Anyone else ever experience this? I think it's accented by the fact that the new shifter has metal inside so it makes a clanking noise against the shifter shaft anytime I change gears. Thanks for any advice.

POST 2Original post

Lift the boot all the way up and see if there is a set screw underneath that needs to be tightened (5 or 6 mm hex I believe). I renetly replaced mine and the stock **** did not have the screw but the replacement one (carbon fiber) did.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm... a set screw.. I'll have to check for that... Thanks

POST 5Original post

With the shift **** on and in place (hold it there) and lift up the boot area almost like you are lifting up a skirt and on the front side facing the front console you will see the hex bolt (I think it is 6mm). Tighten that sucker up and you will be ready to go.

POST 6Original post

stock photo? the one you got has a colored crest in it right ?!?!?!?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hahah.. yeah it was a photo from another thread. Too lazy to take a pic of the one you sold me. It's sad that it's taken me this long to install it huh? But I'm finally done with my car. I just wanted to put in everything at the same time. I'll post pics of everything soon! I changed vents, center horseshoe, center console, shift ****, parking brake, Avic N1 install, Focal 3 ways in the dash and front doors, Focal coax in the rear, 2 custom 8" subs behind front seats. I also changed to Litronics, added sideskirts, and finally changed to 18" Sport Designs. I'm done! Well.. I have been contemplating changing to a B&M SSK.... I need the modding bug to stop though...

POST 8Original post

nice--definitely post pics of it when you're done!
