Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Admittedly, I need to use the search boards as well.
Leading evidence: 'Use search boards as well' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use search boards as well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys -
Am thinking of getting into a 2003 996 C4S. I'm trading my current car in for the C4S, and am getting the following deal from a midwest dealer:
- Seal Gray / Gray 2003 C4S
- Six speed manual
- Car is in good condition
- 7,500 miles
- $85K MSRP (including Bose, in-dash player, full power seats, red calipers, twin exhaust pipes, etc., etc.)
- I believe I would be the second owner
The implied price for this C4S, based on a fair dealer price for my trade-in is about $68K. I think this is pretty good, but wanted to run it buy the board.
- Have asked for the full list of options
- Have asked for a CarFax
- Have asked how much tread is left on the tires
Any thoughts on price as well as what I should look for would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Here are some other questions I would ask:
Is the car considered certified?
If not, can you pay to extend the warranty to 6 years 100K?
Service work done to date?
Don't forget to ask about the rear main seal, RMS. Low mileage cars are not immune. Best of luck.
Pat
I bought the same year, same color, had some carbon fiber pieces like door sills, shifter & handbrake, full power seats both sides, with 6500 miles, bought it this Feb for 65k. There's a comparison shop for you!!!!
Good luck!
The seller is a high-end broker Pat, so I don't think they'd be inclined to - or even able to - offer an extended warranty.
How do I find out about the RMS issue? I assume that the broker will probably not have any idea. Is this covered under the warranty? Is there is perceived "loss of value" when you go to sell the car, or do people actually give you credit for the fact that this issue has been taken care of?
Thx.
Many thanks C4S Surgeon. Could you shed some light on the RMS issue as it pertains to the C4S. Admittedly, I need to use the search boards as well.
OT: Have just registered to become a Rennlist Member. This site rocks!
The RMS is an issue in all porsche motors, some to a greater or lesser extent than others. I wouldn't let it sway me one way or the other about getting one of these cars. The C4S rocks!
