Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone drive a C2 year-round in New England (with appropriate tires, of course)? I'm moving from California to the Boston area (Concord / Acton). I have a 4WD truck for Winter, but I'd love to use the P-car year-round if I could. Am I crazy? I prefer the C2 over the C4 here in California, but snowy Winters will be new to me. '02 C2 with PSM

POST 2Original post

A C2 with the appropriate tires, common sense and some driver ability in the white stuff is just fine in the snow. SEE THIS POST

POST 3Original post

I use my 03 Targa All Year Round - With Winter Sport Rubber You will be fine - The 996 Is great in the snow - just be careful of height - no more than 6". I drive in northern New Jersey and Snow is common, no problems thus far.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bet - thanks for the pointer to the great snow thread. Do you guys worry about rust in areas where there's a lot of salt on the road?

POST 6Original post

Even with Blizzaks the C2 is an adventure in the snow and ice . Keeping speed down, way down, improves safety considerably.

POST 7Original post

I worry about the idiot drivers and the poor visability, in that order. The stuff on the roads comes in a distant third. I drive the pike from Boston to westboro every day......Come thanksgiving, the P cars get put away and I drive a 4 wd truck, till we move the clocks back. Boston drivers have to be experienced personally for you to know just excatly how bad they are.....words alone will not suffice.....

POST 8Original post

I worked at the Prudential building in Boston for a couple of years and then I had a job in Framingham and then Marlboro, and I know exactly what you mean. I'll never forget my first trip to Logan airport and the fun it was getting from the 8 toll booths to two lanes in about the hundred feet to the Sumner tunnel. Boston drivers have to be about the most agressive in the world, and when it snows they really don't really slow down very much. There's nothing like going around 40 MPH on the Mass turnpike covered in about 4" of slush and being passed by cars going around 55-60. For three or four seconds you have zero visability as your wipers attempt to clear off all the slush thrown against it by the passing car. Now if anyone feels that they want to drive their Porsches in those kind of conditions, more power to them. Personally I much prefer driving my Hyundai Elantra. It makes the commute a little less stressful.

POST 9Original post

we had ONE snowstorm in Atlanta this past year but thankfully it came in late friday/early saturday morning so most people weren't on the road. wouldn't you know it but we had a HUGE emergency at the hospital and they desperately needed me. wife needed the 3 series(with A/S tires) for a hair appt, cayenne was down in Houston, so all i had was my new 996 C2 with pilot sport ribs! i took the interstate and fairly steady going 15mph. realizing i needed to get there sooner rather than later, i felt it was safe to go 20mph. all of the sudden my rear swung out on me and thank god nobody was around me AND i was in the middle lane or else we would've ended up in the body shop. moral of the story - no matter how good of a driver you are, you are only as good as the rubber is with the conditions. a winter tire set is a MUST!

POST 10Original post

It's the salt ,it will get everywhere!! I did Blizzack 25's on the cape last winter and it was great!!I have a 2001 C-4 the cape uses less salt(ecology).Unless you can really wash it good aand often you should leave it home,Take the truck!!
