Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

[B][COLOR=Black] hello there is any way to disable the PSM (traction Control) from a 996 and only turn it on when you need it???? thanks

POST 2Original post

use the button on the dash. You are kidding?????????????

POST 3Original post

CPA4S, I laughed out loud when I read your reply!!! Then I said to myself "Self, what's so funny? You don't even have PSM on your '04 996!" Maybe that is the case here, too. Maybe he can't turn it off, because he doesn't have it. I wish I had it, just so I could use it if I wanted to do so. OK, I'll risk asking another "stupid" question. Can PSM be added? If so, any idea of the cost? OK, flog me some if you need to!!

POST 4Original post

The way I read his post is he wants it to default to "off" upon starting the car, and only to hit the button to turn it on when he wants it. I too am annoyed with the fact that it defauts to "on", and you have to turn it off, only to have it default to "on" when you next start up.

POST 5Original post

Maybe pull a speed sensor cable at the rear. It would probably throw a code, but it would default the system off for manufacturer liability reasons.

POST 6Original post

You can't really turn it off. You turn it off but if you get into trouble it will pop back in on you anyway.

POST 7Original post

His previous posts indicate he has a '99. No PSM that year only TC on the C4.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dear jb26jb, you are wrong, I do have the TC on my C2! and waht I mean is than I want to be by default oof and when I want it I turn it on on the dashboard (by the way the button got the letters PSM and not TC

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dear SRL, thanks for your reply, yes I do have TC on my 996 1999 C2 and it always is by default in ON position *** soon as I start the car.In my country there is no speed limit and we drive prety hard here (not 55 mph). I always forgot to turn the TC off on the dashboard button (by tha way the button got the letters PSM...) what I realy wants, is to be by always by default in off positio, and only when is raining (not snowing it is a tropical country) I turn it ON, but the porsche dealer told my that it was not possible, I think it can be done on the programmation of the DME...? But even today, I turn TC off but drive real hard on the hills and curves, so the car's rear loose weight like in a roller coaster, and goes a little up (make lossing traction on one off the wheels) it shows and yellow triangle on the cluster and activates the TC, and shut down RPMs, loose the gas brake a little and everithing normal again, and beleived or not, it makes me loose the handling on the car (sorry for my english it is not my nature language), thanks in advance if you have some ideas....! by the way I don't understand why most of the users on this forums behave like kids...? and can't just answer serious questions..?? they always have to make a real bad jokes from everithing...

POST 10Original post

zappiros, I believe you if others don't. It may be that early RoW (Roest f World....non-US/Canada) cars don't have PSM but my early 2000 C2 has it and so does a friend of mine who drives a 1998 model 996 C2. There are several differences in US spec and RoW spec cars. Anyway, the issue is that you can't really switch it off. Even if you do switch it off, it is designed to kick in if you get into a situation where the PSM system thinks you need assistance.

POST 11Original post

I have a 1998 C2 with the Sports Pack option and this has TC and this LSD detailed in the options. My other 1998 (99 MY) C4 I owned had PSM. The model handbook for 1998 does not mention PSM, but for 1999 MY it does. Mark

POST 12Original post

TC was standard on a C4 in 99 only an option for C2 in 99. PSM which is a more advanced system was introduced on my '00 in US.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes everyday we learn a little, by the way the dealer solved this afternoon, with the PIWI (system tester) and it is off by default now, dont know how they did it, thanks to all specially to SRL

POST 16Original post
