Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been checking out tire prices recently. I was in my local Sears for some unrelated stuff and stopped in the automotive section just to look around. Asked one of the guys if they could get Michelin PS2s and he looked them up. 295/30/18 N2: $300.81 ea. plus $14.99 mount and balance (tax extra) 235/40/18 N2: $210.03 ea. plus " " " " " They will dump your old ones for 2 bucks each. Though it was a pretty good deal compared to others I've seen (including Tire Rack and there is no shipping). Mine go on tomorrow........

POST 2Original post

Make sure they have the machine that does not touch your rims. Some hi-volume places don't. You'll be sorry if they don't. Also make sure they have tape wheel weights, not the kind they pound on the edge of your rim.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Should I consider having a dealer do the mount and balance? What's that likely to cost me?

Here's a list of TireRack.com approved/recommended installers for your zipcode (for pricing comparison against your dealer): http://www.tirerack.com/installer/In...?zipCode=06877 Your dealer will just order the tires from TireRack anyways. If your dealer has a Hunter RoadForce balancer, it's a plus.

POST 5Original post

Assume you have called Sears and they don't have the right equipment? Suppose your dealer can do it. I had mine done here at a specialty wheel shop for $20 (just did one). Tire Rack has a locator for approved shops on their web site. You could call and question one or two of them...that's where I'd start. (For sure, the standard tire machine will do not-nice things to your wheel)

POST 6Original post

Sears will never touch my car. I don't trust them. If their price is really good, I'd pickup tires and have someone else install them.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dealer wants $144 plus tax and weights; he has the Hunter 9700 balancer. I already have the tires and new rims. Rip off or what?? P.S. - I need to bring the car in anyway because I believe I have an RMS issue..........

POST 8Original post

$36 a wheel plus weights? What a rip. So they are saying it will take about 1.5 hours to do the tires?

The Viking Motorsports site (Bedford Hills) shows what appears to be the correct machine.
