Drive the car to the dealer and park it someplace that they can easily get to the battery and disconnect the battery to shut the car off.

Thought I was imagining things when this happened.The engine shut off after about 10 seconds, but I'm concerned this is an early symptom of an impending problem with the ignition.Has anyone got any clues?

I had the same problem. They replaced the ignition switch. Drive the car to the dealer and park it someplace that they can easily get to the battery and disconnect the battery to shut the car off. They will take care of the rest.

I had this exact problem. But my problem also had other weirdness to it. 3 electrical problems all ammounted to one small thing: 1: with foot on foot break and lights on, the car lept running when key reomved. Turn lights off or lift foot from break and the car would stop. 2: with lights turned on, if I drive and touch the foot break, the PSM and ABS lights came on. 3: with lights turned off, every time I touched the foot break the left side side light would also light with the break lights. It turned out to be a rear stop light bulb! The bulb worked fine but the earth had disconnected within the bulb. Try replacing a rear stop lamp bulb and see if the problem goes away.
