Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

These are used on forced induction setups all the time to avoid oil entering the intake tract due to high manifold pressure.
Leading evidence: 'Use on forced induction setups all the time' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend high performance oil separator (p/n 996 107 926 00)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I've seen several threads on the board refer to/recommend the high performance oil separator (p/n 996 107 926 00).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've seen several threads on the board refer to/recommend the high performance oil separator (p/n 996 107 926 00). Can anyone vouch for the before/after performance on the track? Does it actually reduce oil consumption at the track and those little puffs of smoke on start-up? My car's fine around town, but I definitely go thru some oil on track weekends and get the typical small clouds of smoke on start up after pushing during a track session. I'm about to pull the trigger but want to make sure it's worth the money before I go ahead. Also, for anyone that's had it done, how many hours of labor should I expect from my indy to do the job? I've seen the DIY on renntech but frankly it's a little more involved than I want to get.
Good question, I know now that I have the cold air intake, giac chip and freeflow exhaust my oil consumption has gone way up. At the track I will go through at least 1 l for every 350 km of hard driving.
I also have gotten the smoke at startup, but I tend to only get it when I my level bar is right at the top. I noticed that letting the car idle for 4 or 5 min after a session prevents any smoke at start up.
I never did hear from anyone that has installed this on a 996. However, I exchanged PMs with a couple of Cayman S owners who did this install. At least on the Cayman, the install is a little more complicated than just a bolt-on replacement and required additional parts but is still a DIY project, at least for them. I'm planning on doing this later in the month on my car - will provide an update then.
I'd still be interested in hearing from any 996 owners who've put this part on their car.
That's a really nice write up, but I can't help but wonder if a simple catch can could accomplish the same thing. These are used on forced induction setups all the time to avoid oil entering the intake tract due to high manifold pressure. It's inexpensive and simple...two of my favorite things. Any idea if they've tried one?
FWIW, while I did buy the VOS, I ended up NOT installing it in my car because the costs to fabricate it into place where going to be too high. I did not attempt to do it myself, though. Perhaps someone more skilled mechanically can make it work on our cars.
I would be interested in the catch can idea.
