I also use gift cards to the local major home centers for some guys who help me out (Lowe's, Home Depot) etc.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good for you man, glad it worked out well, but at $95/hour it's a good deal for a Porsche dealer...

I call my buddy at the dealer...he says "bring it in at lunchtime and i will hook up the OBD on my break"...
So today..i get there and within 2 minutes...sure enough ...its the MAF..
Suspecting this all along, I had already done some homework on the cost of one of those MF'ers...WHAT???!!!!! HOW MUCH????!!!!!
I found one on ebay for $150....a pretty good deal..so
(back to story____
My buddy walks over to his bench and pulls out a small box ...and proceeds to reset the faults and install a new one...all within literally 5 minutes...
Car starts...perfect...
I ask him how much....he says "don't worry about it".
How much would that have cost "by the book"???
1 hour at $95 + part $500+ supplies +tax..
FYI--Mechanics always seem to have a bunch of new/unused parts around that they keep...And I dont think any of this was unethical...and I certainly dont feel I am jeopardizing my buddys employment by telling this story...
Maybe he feels sorry for me since I have been unemployed for 3 months!!!
It's great to have friends
Good for you man, glad it worked out well, but at $95/hour it's a good deal for a Porsche dealer... In San Jose CA, they are $150/hour, and that was 2 years ago, don't know what is the rate now...
Toss him a gift card to a nice restaurant (when you can afford it) or drop in with coffee/biscuits/muffins/donuts one morning. I also use gift cards to the local major home centers for some guys who help me out (Lowe's, Home Depot) etc. Even a $25 card is meaningful.
I would of done it for you too......for any RL'er for that matter for nuthin'.
Hell, I would yank the motor and trans if need be, it is fun to me. Of course, this requires at least a 6 pack or some good vodka.
