This is the first time I used a lap timer, so I can't really compare lap times, but it sure felt faster.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys probably know this already, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Since the car came with P-Zeros, I've always replaced the tires with P-Zeros. When I'm not on my R-compounds, these are the same tires I use on the track. Got some Michelins PS2's last fall, and took them to the track this weekend. The PS2's seem to break just a tad earlier than the P-zeros. Initially thought it would slow me down, until I learned to use it better. It does break earlier, but stays more predictable. Makes it easier to rotate the car and actually gave better exit speeds. This is the first time I used a lap timer, so I can't really compare lap times, but it sure felt faster. Plus, the P-zeros squeel like happy pigs, where the PS2's have a nice baritone. I think I've found a new favorite tire.

POST 3Original post

I hadn't tried the old P-Zero Asimmetrico back to back with the PS2's on the same car, but I really loved the pre-N3 P-Zero's on my previous 993 Carrera 4S. The N1 version was better than the N2 and the N3 downright sucked. When I got the GT3, it came with the PS2's. Initially, I really loved this tire as it stuck very well for a street tire. But, I quickly noticed it had a very soft sidewall and I think that's what you are feeling rather than an early break-away. As good as the PS2's are, they really made me feel very uneasy both at the track and on the street. I still think it's a great tire, but I wouldn't want them on a sports car. Especially one that's going to make it to the track.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I did note the softer sidewalls, and you may be right as to their giving rise to that early break-away feeling. Curious as to what you would consider a better street/track tire short of R-Compounds, Viken. I think you mentioned Ribs in the past?

POST 5Original post

The PS2 is an evolution of the Ribs which are great tires. However, I don't remember noticing the softer sidewalls while driving on the Ribs. At any rate, I am using the Dunlop SSR's (Super Sport Race) which is a mild R-compound. It's the best compromise street/track tire I've ever used. Super dry grip and great wet performance. Comfy and quiet too. Until I find something better, I am sticking to them.

POST 6Original post

Hey Viken, interesting choice on the Dunlops... will have to try them... are they superior to the S02-A?? - I've heard some guys using Toyo Proxy T1-S... how do they rate among the competition.

POST 7Original post

These Dunlops are *almost* R-compound. So, you really can't compare them with any street tires. They have a 60 treadwear and will definitely last less as well. I still think the S-02A is amongst the best of the street tires for a Porsche. The T1-S is nothing special, but the RA1 is very similar to the Dunlop SSR.

POST 9Original post

hmm... I shot my Contis SportContact2 at an autoX and had to replace them pronto. because Contis really did not like track time I put on PS2s. Had them on today and have alreday put on 800 kms on them. I am very puzzled. Compared to Contis, they are not good at keeping a straight line and are very sensible to tire pressure. Maybe they last longer and can last on a track for longer than Contis, but I tend to agree with Viken; They give me an uneasy feel as the car "jumps" around. So my question to Vilken/board is: 1. Do you think/know if the PS2 have softer sidewalls than Contis? 2. I have now had P-0s (lousy tire wear but great track tire), Contis (good alround street but don't last more than 20 laps), PS2s (too soft sidewalls, good tire wear?). Is S0-3 next????

POST 10Original post

Don't make it sound like the PS2 is a horrible tire because it's not. I can't tell for sure as I haven't driven on Conti's in a long while. I wouldn't touch the S-03 with a ten-foot pole. Especially if you track your car. Try the S-02A's. They are the best Bridgestone has ever made and are Porsche OEM.

POST 11Original post

PS2 have some good features, rain grip was very good and dry grip in lower speeds was also good. Stability in straight line in a concernt to me as asfalt quality here in Sweden in not great on highways (think winter tires with spikes and what they do to the surface). Stiffer sidewalls I believe makes the car less nervous I guess. Contis performed well in that extent. I will look for SO-2A and hopefully I can gve those PS2s back to msomeone who likes them better.

POST 12Original post

Tire shop will take the PS2s back. The Michelin rep was there and offered tto swap them for PS N1. Apart from wear, those seem to get good reviews from fellow Rennlisters. I could not really get a good answer about the sidewall difference on PS N and PS2 without N marking. Anyway, Michelin were helpful on this issue and that is a good thing.

POST 13Original post

bottom line is you have to match the tire with the car... I think people who drive aggressively in a 996 wouldn't go for the PS2 but the PS RIB or the S02-A instead... just my personal observation...

POST 14Original post

ya they are super cheap too, 139 @ tire rack. just got a set for the track. you are right, they are comfy AND quiet. i wanted a set where i could drive to the track and not worry about destroying them. they are cheap enough. the tire rack only has 18" widths to 265. viken you must have gotten something wider. where?

POST 15Original post

Yes, I have the 285/30 since before that size disappeared from the Tire Rack site. This tire is almost as wide as the 295/30 (GT3 spec) and the 265 is also almost as big as the 285/30 (996 spec). So, don't worry about not finding the 285/30. But, if you really have to have the bigger tire, you can get it from: http://www.sascosports.com/products/...sportrace.html

POST 16Original post

Jan and I are both interested in trying a set of Dunlop SSRs. Only problem is transporting the tires from the US. Any suggestions?

POST 17Original post

The tire is made in Germany. Why would you buy from the US?

POST 18Original post

As far as I can tell it is not sold in Europe. It is not listed on the UK Dunlop site, for example, and none of the large Dunlop dealers I have tried stock it. Perhaps it is only DOT approved, and not CE approved (or whatever the European equivalent is).

POST 19Original post

I just heard from another Rennlister that the SSRs are no longer made and there is no stock left in Europe.

POST 20Original post

Well in that case it is not worth looking into importing this tire for you guys. Just find another R-compound you can buy locally.

POST 21Original post

i guess that's why they're on blow-out at the tire rack. time to buy another 4
