Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Replaced my instrument surround today and when I reinstalled the hazard switch and button, the thing won't stop blinking. When I push the button in, it pops back out instead of "catching" and turning the flashers off. So I took the switch out and realized I had no turn signals. Put the hazard assembly back together and jammed a toothpick between the button and the surround to keep it in. This ever happen to you? Thinking I need a new switch..........

POST 2Original post

I have broken 3 of them over the years - but I have removed a lot of instrument clusters. You pull on the white part with pliers to get the switch out. Then it will not stay in the off position. Turn signals go through that switch. 996 and 986 use the same switch but it is cheaper as a 996 part.

POST 3Original post

Yup , dmgcfg you need a new switch, fortunately it's cheap ~$30.00 at your local dealer! just remember, when you want to remove the switch, do NOT pull on the white inner plastic part with the pliers... new switch it is for you, unless you plan not to use your hazard light ever (by jamming it in the on-switch position) good luck.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Tool Pants and damant. Unfortunately, the instructions that I got came from Rennlist or Renntech say to pull the switch out by the white piece with a pair of pliers. No problem though - Suncoast has the new switch for $12 plus shipping. Even with the cost of replacing the switch, I still saved quite a bit of cash relative to having my dealer do the instrument surround replace!

POST 5Original post

Don't know how you woud get the switch out without pulling on the white plastic part.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Only thing I can think of is compress the two outside clips as hard as possible and try to pull the switch out. Tough because you are working in tight quarters and two fingers may not have the strength......
