I gave a little ride and the engine was running better, but there was still a vibration left at 3500, but it was no near compared to the previous vibration before they erase the faulty codes.

I reckon you should try to negotiate a 50% good willing help from Porsche never mentioning track use though, if you already did, be sure they see the tires you used (not r-compounds).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Following my yesterday post on possible engine problems on my 3.4L , heres the update. Been at the dealer in the morning, they put the PSTester and founf several faults. They erased all the faults and told me to go for a short ride to see if the vibration was still there. I gave a little ride and the engine was running better, but there was still a vibration left at 3500, but it was no near compared to the previous vibration before they erase the faulty codes. The engine now runs strong. After the ride they put the PStester again, and there was no faulty codes. Check engine light was off but the oil pressure gauge at idle was market bellow "1" and they told this was not normal, it should read at least "1" at idle. Than while at idle they accelerate and there was still a sligth vibration coming from the engine. They said that if the problem occured after two very hard turn in second gear, there might have been some lack of lubrification for a fraction os second causing some internal engine problems that I cant explain in English. Car remain there and they are going to see if there are any sleves (dont know if this is the right word, but they will see if there is tiny metal parts) on the oil. If they detect sleves on the oil, I have a BIG problem on my hands Engine at idle is smooth, theres no smoke what so ever, if there was some failure at the crank should the engine be smoking?

POST 2Original post

Just what I thought... Start looking at dismantlers for an engine if you don't want to pay for a recon unit. You may have damaged the crank bearings...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dealer called, oil if full of sleves, cant believe this happened. Dealer told me they can open the engine and see if the crank is in good condition. if the crank is in good conditions they can recover the engine, if not , get a new engine will be the solution. The cause for this problems were high Gs in the turn, that caused a lack of internal lubrification. Please, can anyone tell me how thisis possible if I was running with worn Contis SP1 that slide like hell???????????????????? Just called to a big dismantler here in Europe to see if they can find me a used 3.4L engine. Found a company that has six 3.6L engines (Thats right SIX3.6L) all with broken bearings, but they are all running. Guy didnt had any 3.4L used, but he told sometimes he has two or tree in stock, and these engines have been broken ever since 1999/2000. He had received many from several sources which he didnt told me who they were. The bill with a reconstruction engine from Porsche is 8500Euros plus labour. Im devasted, car has 55000Km/3400Miles always assited at the dealer, this is cleary a faulty design from the engine that we as clients should not accept. Porsche should support this expense, but my car is from 1999 and here in Europe the warranty is only for two years so Im sure they will show me the finger (excuse me for the bad linguage but Im really pissed off) Do you think I should ask for a new engine? update: Just found a used 3.6L engine in good running conditions. Will this engine fit on my car without any major mods? Would I have any problems with the throtle body system? My car is from 1999 so it doesnt have throtle body, but I know this new 3.6l has. And how about the motronic box, would I have to buy one from the 3.6 or my motronic would work with this engine. Alsop called to FVD in Germany and they quoted me a re-construction 3.4L engine with two years warranty and my engine exchange for 6000 euros? What do you think? Called to LA Dismantler in USA and they also have a 3.4l. Any source for a used engine round europe? Thanks in advance PS - Ive got my car with me right now. Till rpm 3500rpm it runs perfect after that, theres a slight vibration

POST 4Original post

Darn that blows. Since the 3.6 uses EGAS and the 3.4 uses cable(except Carrera 4) I remember from JimB(rennlist member) who races his 996 and switched from a 3.4 tp a 3.6 X50. Installing he says from cable to Egas is not much of a problem its the ECU to control all the parameters. Maybe you can email him and he can tell you more about it but I think it's expensive proposition. Regards and good luck. Mike

POST 5Original post

well... Here in Europe are you? I'm in Portugal. Heres some links of some specialsts. http://www.europorscha.com/index.htm?Region=France http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/ http://www.v-zweeden.com/Adresgegevens.asp Theres another good one in France which I can't find it now but I can get it if you're interested. I reckon you should try to negotiate a 50% good willing help from Porsche never mentioning track use though, if you already did, be sure they see the tires you used (not r-compounds). Has I wrote in my first reply the result was what I antecipated with that "vibration" but I also think that a moderately seized (if seized at all) can be recovered (as dealer suggested) and this is by far the cheapest option. If not I'd go for a 3,4 for a couple of reasons first its cheaper and its a straight forward operation wether the 3,6 will be a headache to make it work. If you're buying an engine from abroad make sure you get a properinvoice with it to prove your engine (ot THE CAR ITSELF) is not stolen. And I would do this job in a specialist for the obvious financial reasons IMHO though..

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Francisco, thanks for you help. The guy from the third link you gave was the one that I mention on my first post. He has six 3.6L engines, all with broken bearings, yet they are still runing. Ill make a call during the morning for the other two guys on the links. I really dont think theres any possibility of recovering the engine. Please check your pritave email.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgot to mention Francisco, can you please find me the other French dismantler? Thanks in advance
