Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From the thread on superchargers, there seems like a consensus is that the stock engine block cannot take the stress of FI. So the next thought is to replace the engine. First, is anyone aware of companies building crate engines? Or conversely, I understand that there are TT motors available from time to time at $25k. What other parts need to be upgraded (clutch?) if an engine swap is contemplated? Thanks

POST 2Original post

You'd be way better off trading up...IMHO...(even though it would be great fun to be Dr. Frankenstein)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Trading up isn't really an option if I want a TT cab. I would have to wait 2-3 years and keep my current car (non-911). On the other hand, I can buy a '99 now cash ($40k) and save up another $25k in about a year and a half. At that point, I'd have $65k spent instead of $95k (my price estimate) on a '04 TT cab. So if I can get the engine and whatever other components I need installed for $10k....it might be worthwhile to think about.

POST 4Original post

35k min to do it right, on a 35k car? That's just the engine and tranny, the required bodywork(intercoolers won't fit a narrowbody in the oem configuration), suspension upgrade, W/T upgrade, plus any misc, and you're looking at another 40k. Now you're way over the 95k price est and you're left with an unsellable/custom/bondo/fake TT. While you're scrimping and saving every last cent for the conversion, remember these cars ain't cheap to maintain either. Hope you're not married. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I think the reality is it would cost a fortune and not be right. Better off just putting a nice down payment on a TT cab and enjoy it, who says you have to pay in full up front anyway? Finance it, it's the American way.
