I just replaced the rear tires so not looking to swap out anytime soon.

Now (with GT3 suspension), I'm running 15mm front and 7mm rear.

i'm running 285/30/18 on the rear of my narrow body 01 C4 and there are no issues.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Been looking at wheel spacers and saw that 7mm front and 14mm rear are often recommended here. Can anyone shed some light on how these widths were arrived at?
What wheels are these width spacers generally used with on the 996 C2 ?
I ask because my calcs and initial experiments show that both the front and rear can be poached out equally with no issues.
I cannot say that 7 and 14 are "the" rec'd sizes for spacers. Not sure where you arrived at that. With that said, the sizes of 7 and 14 get you pushed further out to sit more flush with the fender. The 14 in rear will get you w/in 1mm of what the GT3 rears look like on a narrow-body car. The 7 in the front really isn't as drastic but still looks good. I have 5mm spacers all the way around on my C2CAB and nothing on the GT3. I have experimented with my GT3 wheels on my CAB and it looks fantastic! Doesn't stick out past the fender and fills it nicely.
It's all relative, depending on the rim width/offset on the cars. Most users are not factoring in the other variables of camber, tire dimensions, rim width & offset, ride height, etc... to arrive at the spacer width.
7 & 14mm is a generic, conservative guideline for OEM rim.
Believe it or not the car sits better with the 14mm in the front and the 7mm in the rear. Maybe hard to see but look at picture below.

>> Not sure where you arrived at that.
Doing a search here finds these sized recommended over and over again.
But I've found (as has CWay27) that you can use far more at the front. I prefer to bring the front and rear out the same.
CWay27, is that Mt. Tremblant? It's beautiful up there.

Give me a call if interested.
I will convert to studs shortly cause 7mm spacers are a real pain to install with bolts. I guess I could go 14 and 14 but for now, my money can be spent elsewhere.
BTW yes it is the beautiful Mont-Tremblant circuit. It was this week-end with CVR
This thread has been very helpful. I just did a brake job - rotors/brakes/fluid. I have H&R sport springs ready to put on once I get Bilstein Sport shocks/struts. The car is a 996 NB C2 cab. Based on Dell's input above, I think 14's or 15 mm spacers (thru Damon) are what I'd like to put on. Sounds like an upgrade to studs as well. What does it take to convert to studs - simply getting the longer studs and some nuts or ?? I hope I don't need to swap rotors since those are new.
What rear tire sizes are you running? I had 285/35/18 and got rubbing with the 15mm spacer in the rear, lowered on H&R springs (no fender rolling) so I had to swap my spacers (front/rear). Now (with GT3 suspension), I'm running 15mm front and 7mm rear. However, with my new tires (235/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear) I could go back to 15mm spacers in the rear.
I am running 265/35/18's on rear. Front I am running 225's. I just replaced the rear tires so not looking to swap out anytime soon. Sounds like I'd be safe with 14 or 15mm spacers in rear w/o rolling fenders or rubbing?
John, I hate to say it, but it just seems like the 15mm on the rear make the wheels stick out too much on your C4S. From my recollection, 5mm all the way around on the Mk1 gets you into GT3 spec at the time.
