Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'exactly why i changed the fluid' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'exactly why i changed the fluid' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill plugs too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I just did my 90k miles service and used the following fluids:

You'll probably want to get some new crush washers for the drain and fill plugs too.

Getting ready to perform the trans service and hopefully cure my finnicky 2nd gear cold shifts...mileage in the mid 60's....WHATS EVERYONE USING FOR FLUIDS
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I know this has been discussed numerous times but wasnt able to find the thread. Getting ready to perform the trans service and hopefully cure my finnicky 2nd gear cold shifts...mileage in the mid 60's....WHATS EVERYONE USING FOR FLUIDS
I put in Redline 75W-90 NS (I do not have an LSD) in my '99 C2. I assume the previous fluid was factory and I did have to warm the gearbox up a bit for the 2nd gear shift to feel good. After the Redline...it definitley shifts better. Even with an EVO SSK.
Sorry if this comes across wrong but do you have a manual? It lists the tranny fluid specs. Further, do you have a lift? How are you going to get the fluid in the case?
I use mobil 1 75w-90, I think it takes about 3.5 quarts. There will most likely be a pump hanging over the gear oil at the parts store, you should be able to pump it right in there with the car on jack stands. You'll probably want to get some new crush washers for the drain and fill plugs too.
Eric, I don't notice anything different in the way it shifts, but then again I don't have any problem with the way it feels. I also don't ever see metal shavings or anything that I feel would be cause for concern.
I didn't know that Mobil says that the oil doesn't meet the requirements of Porsche tranny's, anyone know exactly what Porsche is using? Ubermensch, do you buy your's straight from the dealer, and what is it?
Redline 75W-90. This is the second time I've gotten the diff fluid (awd) replaced.
I'm at 15/30K service intervals for this major stuff.
No issues w/ shifting, although 996s have an inherent popping out of gear issues on 2nd gear, or won't go in. It's rare for me (happens once or twice in a year)
I just knew I should not have read this, now I think I will have this to undertake... Thanks #@*%!! LMAO (just kidding, dont be put off)
Post pics so we know how you did it, GL
(man... now I have to tell the wife to postpone that thing we were planning so I can service the Trans/Diff oil...Rats!)
I just did my 90k miles service and used the following fluids:
Engine = Mobil 1 0w40
Transmission = Redline 75w90NS (I don't have limited slip)
Brake fluid = Superblue racing
Prior to the redline gear oil I was using Specialty Formulation's MTL-R formula. Which provided over 40k miles of great smooth shifting, when I drained the fluid I couldn't believe how clean it was. Should have saved it and use it in the differential of my wife's BMW. But unfortunately SF went out of business, so the Redline was my experimental fluid to try, and so far I am very happy with the result. All gears shifts smoothly even 2nd gear when cold.
Thumbs up from me for Redline 75W90NS!
