If I did it 4 times over I fear that my paint would be different every time I added/replaced a piece!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I took the 996 in this morning to get a makeover. Looking for a more aggressive look I guess. Unfortunately, it is going to take a few days to paint match since I have the Viola Metallic color...but looking forward to the final product. It is currently raining here in Minneapolis, so I don't miss the car too much, just yet.
What to do while the car is away for 2-3 days? Not sure but looking forward to posting some pics and getting some opinions on it when it's done! I really like the look of the rear as is, without a spoiler, but wanted to add a little flare so I went with the Techart smaller spoiler to add a bit of height while cruising. Hopefully it looks good for every day in-town driving too. If anyone has this spoiler will you please post some pics?
Will follow up in a few days!
I have been debating this for a while now - just haven't pull the trigger on one that i like - there are so many kits to choose from.
Good luck with the makeover and post em up when you done.
This is a kit I sort of put together myself. I bought the turbo bumper and sideskirts from precisionporsche.com, Tony - very nice guy and helped me out a lot. I decided to go with the GT3 style side skirts over the other ones he has posted...I originally bought the generic ones (which I still think look great) but then decided to ship them back and exhange them for the GT3 look, it has a more straight line to it and I just thought it was a closer look to the 40th ann C4S that I like so much.
The rear wing came from an ebay seller, DirectCarToys, and surprisingly it looks fantastic out of the box (unpainted). I will have more details once the bill comes as to how much prep and modifications had to be done to the parts!
I also have a 10% off coupon for directcartoys.com if anyone is interested...if you plan to buy anything from them you should probably PM me so I can send it to you...the parts look identical to Techart, and after seeing for myself the spoiler certainly looked great.
Here is mine. All parts official Porsche Aero I...only way to go IMO. It makes a difference on the track with the adjustable wing and the aerodynamics engineered by Porsche into the front bumper cover and rear wing.
+1 on OEM parts and styling cues. These cars are different compared to Hondas so you don't want it to end up looking like frankenstein if you care about resale value.
I agree that OEM parts are the best...however, I am in real estate in Minneapolis and the market, right now, is tough...so I am cutting a few corners, maybe where I shouldnt....but the parts looked great on other cars that I have seen in person (good enough for the girls I go out with at least, jk) so hopefully they will come out looking good.
It is a bit of a gamble in some respects, but I just cannot afford OEM at this point in my life (26 yrs old with LOTS of overhead including the Porsche)
People upgrade their aero parts piece by piece. Bumpers first, then sideskirts and then the aero wing. You are taking a big gamble unless you are keeping the stock parts in the event you have to resell.
This would be interesting...I wanted to do everything once so my paint is consistent. If I did it 4 times over I fear that my paint would be different every time I added/replaced a piece!
I will say some prayers tonight and hope it comes out ok
I thought you had MKII bumper, MKI side skirt and no wing. Now you have MKII bumper, MKII sideskirt and MKII Wing.
Wayne also did not put his together all at once.
You two are the ones just off the top off my head.
+1
Porsche engineers developed the aerokit to fit correctly and have the right balance aerodynamic at high speed
Change the aerodynamics based on your look taste, is not good if you paln to achieve high speeds.
I.e.
I friend of mine who is a 997 Turbo owner wanted to install the 997 GT3 front bumper in a Porsche dealer. The mechanic boss told him that if he would go for this, then the Porsche warranty would be canceled, as there were no optional Porsche approved on installing aerokit single parts, who would modify the aerodynamics.
I don't like aftermarket body wings. OEM parts are the best if you install them as the manual says
Im with the rest of the crowd... OEM is the way to go... I would look for used parts over the winter and save them till you have a complete set. Then, have them all painted at once.
yeah believe it or not... its OEM...
Here you go. If you go this route, the car will remain period correct and arguably the most fluid porsche aero design. Its only my opinion of course.

Thanks Eddie. Suncoast is usually the best. Here is what I did. Two years ago, Suncoast quoted $4900 for the front bumper, side skirts, and rear wing. My local VB dealer wanted $6200. So I gave them an option to match that price and they did. The rear skirts are Porsche Tequipment but are not part of the Aero that I bought from the dealer. Some people do not like but I do. I am sure they have very little impact on the aerodynamics.
My car is a 2001 with a brand new 3.4L
NEW
engine. It runs beatifully and is warranted for two years starting 12/07
Wow, save something for next year!. Interested who you go to for paint in the Metro . . .

Jon,
Good luck with the Fabspeed mufflers...they sound incredible! I am adding new headers as well later this week to get hopefully a bit more aggressive in sound...but not too aggressive as I had to remove the sport cats since they were too loud for my taste.
The install for the mufflers is easy since there are so many nice write-ups on this site...make sure to have some bolts and nuts laying around cause, as you know, you will need them. Most of mine were rusted and broke!
Let us know how it sounds once it is in!
Update on my body kit, they need a few extra days (please no "told-you-so's")...looks like I will be able to post some pics Thursday/Friday...can't wait!

I took it into Lehman's in SW Minneapolis - nice guys and great prices, so I will keep you posted. The total for all of the prep work, paint, and install came to $911.00, so I knew it was a sign that I should use them! This was after I received quotes of over $2K, so as you can imagine I was pretty happy
I would check up on the progress and any last minute request you may have ... nothing worse than picking up a car... and not being happy about certain details about the project.

Yep, that is for the whole shabang...Hopefully it will be quality work though...I just got back from checking in (thanks for suggesting Ridge) and it looks AWESOME thus far...can't wait to post pics. The only part that was not done was the sideskirts so hopefully those come out as nice as the bumper and tail.
Looks like I will be picking it up at 5 tomorrow (Thursday). I will post pics tomorrow night rain or shine. It is amazing how much I miss driving that Porsche. I have a 2008 Jeep GC for my Winter car and I have been actually driving it lately...doesn't handle quite the same
A neighbor of mine bought a boxter S (05) so I stopped by yesterday to meet him a few houses down. He was amazed at how well the car handled and how "he never knew driving could ever be so fun". I am hoping that I had an influence on him as around here in SW Minneapolis there aren't a lot of P-car owners!
What a statement: "I have a Harley Davidson in the garage...with the weather we have been getting lately, you would think that I would be out on my bike more often since the season is almost over...but all I have been driving lately is the Porsche...it's SO fun to drive".
I got the dreaded "We are having a hard time paint-matching and will need another day" call today.
They are gauranteeing that it is done by 1:00 tomorrow, and I told them to take time and keep it until it is 100% finished and perfect.
No pics today, but hopefully tomorrow!
Nice, but where's the rear spoiler?
That pimple on the mechanical spoiler isn't a wing, what is it? Is it OEM? I've never seen an OEM part like that before.
I actually do not like the loud, large rear spoilers...just not my pint of Guiness I guess. Techart makes one very similar, it just gives an extra bit of height while HW cruising and looks pretty decent when it motorizes up...Maybe someday I will start to appreciate the larger spoilers but for now I will enjoy my "pimple"
Here are two 'loud" rear spoilers from last weekend Chsu74 and I got together briefly at the NJ Rennlist drive.
The cars look great when you see them in person and even better when back to back like this.
Thanks you.
I was never in a hurry to install the taco wing, but after I saw several of them in person I caught the bug and finished off the partial aero kit that I already had installed.
they should of painted the front aluminum bumper black so its a bit camouflaged... take that pimple off, lower the car... put some spacers on and you'll have a killer looking ride!
the new look... looks good. Youll give in and put a wing on though, its just a matter of time....
Thanks for all the suggestions, advice, etc guys. I noticed the front silver piece of the bumper right away and will have to paint that to be less noticeable later in the week. As far as the pimple goes, it will stay on for the time being, but i am already looking into spoiler ideas (possibly) for next season. I wanted to be low-key with this so if it doesn't last long on the car I will keep the stock rear spoiler for a while...
New headers, spacers, rear sway bar, H&R springs, new exhaust tips, etc going in on Tuesday of next week. This boy aint messing around! I will finally have it the way I want it and then it is put away in the garage all winter long
But at least I will have something warm and cozy to pull in next to!
I like the looks of that PrecisionPorsche front air dam. Is this mounted on a 996 with OEM ride height? If so, what is the ground clearance at the front, on a level surface?
Thanks.
...Rickker
I like the looks of the car. The small spoiler can't be functional but it gives different look. Congratulations, now that the mod bug has bit.
I finally have my MKII bumper and wing and am going to get them painted and installed later this fall. I can't wait! I almost have all the leather pieces to switch out from vinyl on the interior as well. That's been more of a challenge. After that wheels, and it's finished. All this for a $35K car?!
I doubt it is functional but definitely a different look that has grown a bit on me...I originally didn't want to put anything on the back since I like the looks of it already.
The mod bug has taken a hold of me and won't let go, at least not yet.
Good luck with your body install and post some pics when you are done.
