I've only ever purchased one daily driver type used car with no manufacturer warranty/cpo, and I regret it to this day.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the help and advice through the months. I really appreciate it!! My car is finally gone and forgotten. No more Porsche for me, ever! (Unless I win the lottery then I'm buying a new turbo) Thanks and goodbye, Orrin

POST 2Original post

Good luck in your future endeavors. May our paths cross again some day!

POST 3Original post

Orrin, good luck going forward. Stop back here now and then to let us know how you are doing.

POST 4Original post

take care Orrin... let us know when you get your new Turbo!

POST 5Original post

I guess if I were you I'd feel the same way, bad luck all around. Have better luck in the future!

POST 6Original post

I dont know, new motor..... i would keep it and get my money back in "miles driven" I would NOT have felt the same way, in fact I would sit down with my car and explain to her that although she had a new motor and was looking good, I was the boss and there was a price to pay... get ready hunny.... I am going to drive your underpants off.... Well..... I would

POST 7Original post

NEVER? Sad...so sad... I hope to NEVER drive anything else!

+1 for that sometimes I have to drive the suburban for the added space/capacity, but the entire trip I am wishing it was the P-Car... I didnt dream about it this long to be knocked down by some sort of major event. Even if that caused me to dispose of the car, losse every penny spent and be left with a sour taste in my mouth, I would get another one somehow, someday...

POST 9Original post

Hate to see a Carolina guy go, but I totally understand. I would be in a tough spot should the same happen to me. Good luck to you Orrin.

POST 10Original post

It would suck royally if that had happened to me and I'd be just as bitter. I think this was his first Porsche and he had just bought it shortly before this happened. Put yourself in his shoes.

POST 11Original post

I am trying too, I was stupid enough to buy a 99' with original motor and 100k on the clock, plus 4 owners and 2 accidents that I discovered AFTER I already bought it and THEN found Rennlist...So I figure my time bomb it ticking (106K now) and I have priced the new one (YIKES) plus I bought the car on credit with nothing down (though I planned to pay it off, I changed my mind and kept the money in the bank just in case) SO, like I said, he spent the money (like me) it was a bad deal, he got slammed with BIG BILLS.. OK, selling it doesn't get that money back (does it?) so I would be pissed too, even bitter, but the only way to recover the loss is to drive your money back out of it, thats all I was saying... Hey I feel sorry for him... and sometimes me too, but if it sinks me, and I fix it (not trade it off w/o being fixed) I would keep it...... or surely if it was a lemon, get another one......someday Now I am just going to duck !!!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am so glad to be rid of it. The dealer still claimed the gas pedal was normal, but it was incredibly notchy and really irritating to drive. Also, I didn't want to keep it and then something else go wrong, minor or major. I didn't feel like putting another cent into that car. I bought a 2006 330i with 25,000 miles and CPO. Beautiful car and much nicer than the Porsche. I was never really impressed with the Porsche other than the wonderfully strong and smooth acceleration.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's funny.......even on the trip to Charlotte to look at BMWs I had several people point at me. One was a guy standing on a hill with his friend on Independence Blvd. As I passed I saw him tap his buddy and point at me. I could read his lips and he said, hey look at that Porsche. It was always nice to get that kind of response, but it always made me want to stop and tell the people, "Yeah, it's a 911, but you don't know the half of it". (Engine failure, etc.) I'm not trying to get anyone here riled, but I am very glad to not have that car in my garage anymore.

Uh Ohh! Being unsatified with a blown engine on this board leads to character assinations.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 5917395

Well to be honest I am not riled and I can understand how a car could do that to you. I once had a Honda that went that way and a swear, even if they become the best car on the planet, I will never own another one... Point taken... But then again, they dont look like the P-Car and inspire me to touch them, carress them, run my hand down the curves and talk softly too them... whooops, my sentual side slipping out I am glad to hear you found something you like, and knowing the trouble you HAD, I am sure that makes it that much sweeter for you. GL, and stay in touch Ed

POST 19Original post

Wow! I've had three BMWs - I like them, I really do, but I've also had three P-cars, and I could never fool myself into thinking the BMWs were nicer than the Porsches...let alone much nicer . Enjoy the 330 though, sounds as if you already are.

POST 20Original post

Orrin, I'm sad to see you go but I think everyone understands. Enjoy your BMW in good health and don't be a stranger. I have to say I'm so glad you went CPO. I firmly believe that CPO cars are the best cars in the used car market, and I would never buy a vehicle from a dealer who wouldn't certify it for a cost (meaning it wouldn't pass the manufacturers specs for certification) I've only ever purchased one daily driver type used car with no manufacturer warranty/cpo, and I regret it to this day. Prior to that always new, always cash. Then, when one of our new MBs was totaled by a film crew, and the insurer said they would replace with the exact same certified vehicle (it was an AMG special edition interior/body/etc, and the cash value they proposed didn't work), I got my first taste of a certified vehicle. It was perfect. Felt new, no depreciation nightmares, and full warranty and support. Never looked back. Since accidentally discovering CPO, I've done it 4 times and still have 3 of the cars, MB Audi and Porsche, and all in all haven't even spent $3K in repairs out of pocket in the past 6 years. I see no reason to mess with a good thing, so I will keep buying new or CPO only for a modern car (read: one I can't fix easily!). The one car I bought with no warranty in that period died quicker than you can snap your fingers, even after a full pre purchase inspection. It was also the only japanese car! Now I may have paid a total premium to non-certified of as much $10K total on all 3 cars combined, but the warranty work and the peace of mind combined have more than redeemed that figure!

POST 21Original post

My DD is a '99 328i with over 95k. I have had no real issues, just common 3 series stuff, hoses, window regulators. I think you will like your choice.

Wow, I've spent way more than $3K on repairs since I bought my CPO car in 2005. Oh wait a minute, I always get confused. It wasn't repairs; it was mods. Damn that mod bug.

haha yeah I spent that much on mods before I actually took delivery!!!
