My car is at 24 7/8" at the top of the rear fender well, I would assume this might have an effect; I am also running - 1.5 deg camber in rear.

both are ET50mm but the fronts use a 7mm spacer so i guess that would effectively be ET57.

Manthey Motors has chosen a similar road and Porsche itself has freely admitted that a significant reason for the 997's suspension redesign was to allow for the use of 19s.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have to admit that I enjoy the mod bug. I also admit to liking wide rear ends; on Porsches of course. I currently have a nice , aggressive street/track set up on my car. I would like to put some 315's or 335's on the rear with appropriate rims and offset. I would compromise some handling and ride for the bling factor. I would also need to go wider in the front also. My current tires are 285/30-18 r and 24/40-18 f , SO2's. would the fenders need to be rolled? Has anyone done something like this. In a nutshell I am looking for the Boy Racer LOOK. Comments, pictures, opinions and any help. Thanks.
Did you see the widebody conversion over on 6speed a few months back? That was what you were looking for. Heavy as a beast but he put in a SC I think. The car was blue and had rims with an INSANE lip on them.
I forgot which Excellence Mag edition it was but it was about how folks like installing 19" wheels on the 996 and causing serious handling concerns due to the front 996 suspension not designed to handle 19s. The article was actually about 997 on how they revised the suspension to take 19s.
I think the issue you're referring to is the February 2005 Issue and it concerns 9ff's article on Jet Blue, their project 3.4 996. In the article it reads: "9ff avoids using 19-inch wheels on 996s, but it not alone. Manthey Motors has chosen a similar road and Porsche itself has freely admitted that a significant reason for the 997's suspension redesign was to allow for the use of 19s. Fatthauer agrees. "19-inch wheels may look good, but they ruin the steering feel and handling of the car," he argues. "You get more mechanical grip wiht 19-inch tires, but they desensitise the driving experience, spoil the ride, and increase bump steer. For those who enjoy driving, we recommend 18-inch as the maximum."
I think you will find many on this forum will disagree with the aforementioned and some may agree with some of the description but find the negatives outweighed by the positives (bling, etc.). I'm going for the 19's!
I realize there is some trade off for the 19's. I am wanting these more for show than go. I do not need the full track set up if I am out for a cruise on the streets. I am going for the look......All Hat No Cattle., know what I mean? I love that blue car in Excellence Mag, way cool. LVDell could you give a link to the site? I am still trying to find out how WIDE I can go in the rear.
i assume you will be getting new rims to complete the boy racer look cause the carrera lightweights won't cut it
i have a set of 19x8.5 F , 19x10R. both are ET50mm but the fronts use a 7mm spacer so i guess that would effectively be ET57. the front fenders do not need any additional rolling but the rears do. tires are bridgestone so3 245/35-19 and 285/25-19. you will definitely need 19x11s with even more offset if you wanna go 315, and especially 335.
FWIW the current gt3 wheels, w/ the rear being 18x11, will fit on 996 c2s
here's my boy racer look
I love that look. It may be a bit heavy on the Aero type package fo me. The fenders are the look I want .Karlooz has the look that I am after, understated and clean. All the help from you guys is great, hopefully I will get approval from the boss to get the wheels and new rubber....The quest continues.
Stiles_s I am in Redmond,wa just down the plateau from you between Fall City and Redmond off of 202. Maybe I'll see you around sometime. Hey guys thanks for the info. I have the '02 Carrera rims with the 28's on the rear with H&R's, I was wonderin about some spacers until I work out the details on the 19's. Could I put 10mm or 15 mm on the rear? Is there a way to determine the amount you can add? My car is at 24 7/8" at the top of the rear fender well, I would assume this might have an effect; I am also running - 1.5 deg camber in rear.
$20 K is just a shade more than I care to spend for a fatter a$$. I think the wheel spacers and/or 11" rims with lip and proper offset and a bit of fender roll are going to have to cut it . For $20 grand I am spending it on something to truly make it better as opposed to all visual.
