Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was installing my new GHL mufflers last night. After removing the tips and loosening the clamp on the cats, I ran into a problem. The two bolts that hold the muffler to the hanger bracket have to be removed upwardly, and there is a welded body seam about 1/2 inch above the bolt, which would appear to prevent one from withdrawing the bolt. I struggled with it for a while, and with some persuasion I removed them, but it seemed like I was missing what must be an easier way. Removing the bracket from the engine that supports the hanger seems near impossible, given the inaccessibility of the upper mounting bolts. What did I miss? Installation of the GHL was a snap, and I inserted the bolts from the bottom up, which makes much more sense to me, insuring that removal next time will be a snap. Steve 99 996

POST 2Original post

Hi Steve, nearly made the same mistake myself, till I laid under the car for a while thinking this cant be right ....... And it's not ..... you need to undo 3 nuts on each side that hold the silencer to the bracket that mounts on the motor, do not take off the bracket from the motor but the silencer from the bracket, bit fiddly but you can get in there with a 3/8 drive socket. Have fun ...... Cheers Paul

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Paul; I contemplated that approach for awhile, and will use it tonight when I do the other side. steve

POST 4Original post

Access is tight, but you need to remove the mounting bracket along with the muffler...

POST 5Original post

Exactly... then switch everything over to the new cans.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK thanks, removed the bracket on the second muffler and all went well. Found it easier to install the new muffler with the bracket back on the car than with the bracket attached to the muffler. Job went great, GHL sounds great. Thanks GHL for the great Rennlist deal. Steve
