Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
There is a definate difference between using the windscreen and not using it, especially on the freeway.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hey everyone,
i'm finally happy to say i can actively participate as an owner and not just a lusting hopeful! just purchased an '02 C2 cab. it feels great to finally be an owner.
anyway, this leads me to a couple of questions i have. i'd love some opinions on whether the windscreen is a good thing to get. if so, where are some good sources for purchasing it?
also, does anyone have some pages that have a good list of websites to use as resources for all things 996?
thanks in adavance and i'm looking forward to lots of great dialog here in the future!

Yes get it for sure. If you put the top up and windows up, there is hardly any wind on the highway. And, even with the windows down, it makes a noticeable difference. I leave mine in all of the time. It should just come with the car.
I agree with all....especially if you roll up the side windows at high speed. I wouldn't be w/o one. While they don't look as neat as some others, you really don't need it up when cruising through town..
One came with my c4s cab and after putting it up I couldn't believe how much it helped. I was on the highway with the windows up and the windscreen up and it was 40 degrees out. Heated seats and heat cranked but I was fine, no wind... weeeeeeeeeeee.

It is unanimous then, my Cab didn't come with one, I bought one and really appreciate it. I install it every year when i take the hard top off and it stays on till I put the hard top back on in the fall.
Go get one.
Yes, I agree with everyone in that the windscreen is a must. It really is surprising how much it helps.
However, I thought that if your Cab didn't come with it originally, it wouldn't have the holes in the sides of the back seats where the windscreen locks into the body of the car?
If that's true, is there a DIY or other that tells how to make those holes? I have a friend who'd like to know.
Thanks.
Hmmmm.... strange. Never new they made the 996 cab without them sockets. My 00 Cab has em.
The windscreen is an absolute must have item!!
My only issue I have with it is its name. In the UK a "windscreen" is the glass in front of you.
We buy "windscreen wipers and fill up our windscreen washers". So it is confusing. But hey, who cares, we only invented the language
I think all the cabs are set up for the windscreen regardless of whether you order it with the car. My '99 had the mounting holes and I didn't get the windscreen as an option. Back in '99 you could order options like the windscreen individually. When I bought my '02, it had become bundled with the Advanced Technics Package. I'm not up on how it's offered now.
I believe all cabs come with the windscreen setup. I think it is a US thing to remove the windscreen and sell it as an option. I know in Oz it is standard equipment. I believe the same is the case in some European countries.
