Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My wife took the car to Target. Ran fine. Locked it, went into store. Came back 10 minutes later, unlocked it, won't start. All the lights come on but there is no engine sounds at all. Anyone have any ideas...I hate the thought of having it towed. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Make sure the carpet is not in the way and make sure the clutch is pressed all the way to the floor. The car won't turn over if the clutch is fully depressed.

POST 3Original post

I'm curious as to what does the dash indicate for the battery power?

POST 4Original post

I hope your not leaving it overnight in the Target parking lot! BTW does it make a clicking sound when you try to start?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Voltage is a good question...I will check that. The engine makes no sound at all when she tries to start it. Also, I should have said, I have a tiptronic. And yes, I need to leave it at Target overnight Any more ideas?

POST 6Original post

I had exactly the same problem about a year ago. I have a 6 speed and I had full power in the car, full voltage on battery, nothing blocking clutch pedal and no clicks or anything when key was turned to start and had to have it flat bed towed to the dealer. Turns out they said that it was the alarm controller which had failed and disabled the starter of the car. They replaced it under warranty and told me it would have cost about $2K to fix otherwise, although it was Bev Hills Porsche so who knows what it costs elsewhere. Rio

POST 7Original post

you will likely have full voltage on most battery's unless one of the cells is actually destroyed, now weather or not you have enough amps to crank the car is another quiestion

POST 8Original post

Make sure the trans is completely in park and that the brake pedal is depressed while attempting to start. The reverse lock might not be disengaged.

POST 9Original post

Fuse blown. Third row from top, second fuse from left. 30A.

POST 10Original post

Guys, this was posted yesterday. I think she'll be out of the parking lot by now ... Cheers, Uwe

POST 11Original post

whatever.... Still useful info for others doing a search in future.

POST 12Original post

you might check to make sure the clutch switch is on correctly I accidently kicked it off once-

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And the winner is!! Ignition Switch. $200 including tow and back on the road. Thanks everyone.

POST 14Original post

ah, you didn't mention the symptoms that go with that one though!

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mentioned that only symptoms there were... Thanks
