Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brought my '02 C4S in for service today for and oil leak. They said I have and RMS leak and they are investigating it further. Will I need a new engine?

POST 2Original post

When they replace the seal, they will check to see if the crankshaft/seal bore tolerance is within spec. If not, then you'll need a new engine. FWIW, mine was fine...just needed the seal. Check out the link below: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...&st=0&#entry24

Thanks "BostonMark" for the info.

BostonMarkC, You wrote: "FWIW, mine was fine...just needed the seal" After reading the link that you posted (very informative), I would qualify what you said to read that "FOR NOW", all you needed was the seal It seems that you can never be sure with this RMS problem! A few hundred miles later you may find out that you need a new engine!
