Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

One cool feature is that you can electronically set the suspension from standard (think Lincoln) to sport (think BMW) to advanced (think about a trip to the dentist to reset your fillings) and you can turn off all the driver assists if you want to have a little fun.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have Volvo S60R here? Would it be a good family car? I have been thinking about getting a family sedan (ideally i would like to have 4door M3) and it looks like S60R fits the bill. We already have 2 SUVs so i dont want a big sedan. Does 996 owner own this one also? opinion?

POST 2Original post

I've owned an S60 T5 and have driven the S60R before. I loved the S60 T5 other than the fact it was only front wheel drive. The S60R is a great vehicle, all wheel drive, 5 cyl turbo with about 300hp. The only thing I had to complain about in the S60R were the front seats. They seemed to be a bit stiffer and a tad less comfortable than the S60 T5 I had. Of course I'm not a small guy so that might have something to do with it. I personally like the lines and the interior quality of the Volvo better than the 3 series BMW, but that's just my taste. - Richard

POST 3Original post

I seriously considered an S60r when we were shopping for our family car. It is a really, really fun car to drive and quick to boot. I thought it was pretty comfortable to tool around in. One cool feature is that you can electronically set the suspension from standard (think Lincoln) to sport (think BMW) to advanced (think about a trip to the dentist to reset your fillings) and you can turn off all the driver assists if you want to have a little fun.

POST 4Original post

my commuter is an '05 s60 T5. i drove the R version and liked it a lot but would spring for a c32 or s4 in that price range. the s60 is very well put together and drives/feels more expensive than it is. only regret is lack of rear leg room and a largish c-pillar that affects rearward vision. btw, i've seen 28-31 mpg on steady-state fwy cruising.

POST 5Original post

I have a silver one. A 2004 with 18000 miles on it. Its quick, agile and of course reliable. Excelent accelation and even better braking. It is a fantastic family car. On another note, I walked away from a major accident in one of my Volvo's about 8 years ago on 280 south at Foothill Blvd in Los Altos when some blond bimbo doing her makeup at 65 MPH didn't see the cars ahead stopping. She swerved, lost control, spun out and with the back of her car hit the tail end of my car spinning me 180 facing all the on-coming traffic. Smack, crash, wammo from all over. CHP showed up said I was a lucky dog. Walked away with a big bruise on my shoulder where the belt pulled me back, like HARD and TIGHT and FAST. If you're going to put your kids in the car, then make it a Benz, BMW or a Volvo. Those cars are built to take the impacts...Big Time. I've heard it said that a 50mph collision in a Ford or Chevy, usually results in the occupants being killed or severely injured but the car can be fixed...in a Volvo the car is a total write off but you have a better chance of walking away pretty much uninjured. Jim

POST 6Original post

Glad you are OK - what happened to the blonde? one of my friends is a pharma sales rep - she has a company impala which is the worst car I have ever driven she is a self-acknowledged awful driver and I feel scared for her (and me when in her car) if (when?) she gets into an accident My family sedan will be a 540 or m5 - I want a solid chunk of metal to be there in case of an accident

POST 7Original post

After she spun out and lost control of her car she ended up climbing an incline on 280 which separates the two directions of traffic and stopped about 3 feet short of parking in the fast lane of oncoming north bound traffic. She fractured two ribs, broke her left wrist and knee and had a good size bump on the left side of her head. after they loaded he up into an ambulance, the CHP officer told me she had lipstick in her eye, lipstick all over her neck, face, and forehead as if she were drawing on it. Kinda sorta prima facie (no pun intended) evidence that she was applying make-up while driving when she lost control of her car. You couldn't ask for a better car to be in in an accident with than a Volvo or a 540 or M5!!!
