I had mine adjusted on all four wheels when I changed the tires, and I'd recommend that.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust on all four wheels' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust on all four wheels' (1 discussions). Suggestion
I agree 100% on having the TOE checked, aspecially if they are evenly worn.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I searched, I know this is a common problem, but I am looking for advice based on my driving conditions.
I just bought brand new 19" rims/tires about 4000 miles ago. The rears already need replacing! seriously 4000 miles and I am at 2/32. They are Hankook V12 295/30/19. Hint of advice to anyone looking at these tires...stay away. Well anyways enough of my bitching.
My question is what is a good highway tire? I average 1000 miles a month on the weekends ( I love daycations) but mostly highway. Performance wise, I like to get up to speed fast and occasionally drive fast on the highway, but I do not race/track/abuse my car. I just need a cost effective tire for what I am looking for, any help will be greatly appreciated. I would love to get around 15000, that way the tires would last about a year and a half or so.
It could be an aggressive driving style, but maybe get your alignment and camber checked. You don't say so but I assume the quick wear is on the inside of the tires and not elsewhere? If so try looking for symmetrical tires this time. With those you can rotate the rears by dismounting the tires from the wheels and remounting them on the other side. You'll have a fresh set of rubber on the inside!
I had an alignment done, the wear is throughout the whole tread. There is nitrogen(I think) in the tires that is supposed to decrease the amount of times you have to check the pressure. I guess I saw the $200 per tire price tag and liked the reviews and went for it. Unfortunately the wear rating is horrible.
I have a set of the same Hankooks with about 4,000 miles since new, and they have only recently worn through the logos on the center treads at the rear. Mostly SoCal daily driving, 75 - 85 mph. I had 4-wheel alignment done when they were installed, and no complaints so far. First time I've bought Hankooks.
Not disagreeing with your assessment, leia7987, just a different experience with the product.
I have Sumitomo HTR-Z III tires on my 996. I've got about 5,000 miles on them so far, and I have been very pleased. The wear is minimal at this point. The performance is good for street driving, and they are affordable. They are less noisey than the Pirelli P-Zeros that they replaced, and they feel every bit as good.
It sounds to me like your alignment and camber might be off, as mentioned above. I had mine adjusted on all four wheels when I changed the tires, and I'd recommend that.
Three things I would check/ensure when you buy your next set of tires if you're concern on wear;
-Wear Indicator (UTQG) value when you get your next tire. The higher that no. the more resitant it is to wear.
-Thickness of the tire. Even though it has higher UTQG it might have less XX/32 in thickness, common in high performance tires.
-Most important, check your alligment specially TOE. If your tires are plowing they will wear prematurely.
Good luck
you are lucky - now you get new tires....imagine if they lasted forever how boring that would be
Sumi htr zIII - I am happy - see tirerack I dont know if they come in 19's - why are you running 19's... I have seen only one 996 with them on and IMO they are too big - (just saying)
The Sumi's are great, I have run them on other Porsche's, I don't think I will hesitate to give them a shot on the 996 when the Conti's wear out. The Conti's are so damn noisy!
I'm in agreement the Sumitomo's are a great tire, but there are limited 19" fitments. Most of these guys are running 17 or 18" probably. If I was a betting man I'd bet with correct alignment and tires done at 4k, your driving style is a bit....spirited? I agree 100% on having the TOE checked, aspecially if they are evenly worn. Camber isn't your issue.
Please give me a call if I can help.
