Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

At idle I am getting a rattling, clunking noise.. I'm thinking this could be BAD but I tool a screw driver and tried to isolate the noise. I don't feel it from the engine block, or lower engine area but it's vary noticeable in the exhaust and mufflers. For whatever it's worth, car feels fine and just back from a 160 miles drive. ok... lets hear it...

You should be so lucky! Could an exhaust pipe be loose or a mount broken?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just went outside and "banged" around with a hammer, When I tap on the right cat there is a clonngggong rattte noise coming from it. I guess thats it... How much are those puppies!

POST 7Original post

Enough $$ that you may as well just buy aftermarket high flow versions. Check you mileage and age to see if your cats are still covered by that Fed Emissions Warranty on all cars.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whats the Fed warranty on an 02? 50K miles. I think it's 8 years/80K miles, so I should make it?

POST 9Original post

Same thing happen to "whitey". He had a horrible rattle and feared something $$$. After we did a few "you rev and drive away and I'll listen" tests, we finally figured out it was a broken bracket that allowed the exhaust to rattle and make the sound.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Called my local Porsche dealer, The service guy is pretty sure its the Cats from what I described to him. Going to drop it off next week, take a loaner for the day. if its the cats it is covered.

POST 11Original post

Although cats are expensive if not covered, the good news is it could have been much worse. Good luck!
