Reported cause
Turns out it was the first screw removed/last screw to be replaced and someone must have previously dropped it inside the door, didn't remove it, and then just got another.
Leading evidence: 'first screw removed/last screw' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first screw removed/last screw' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair of some sort' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had the same symptoms, and mine turned out to be a loose (unattached) screw.

It turned out that the Torx bolt that holds the door to the frame had loosened.

Suggestion
I didn't remove the plastic liner all the way as mine was torn at the bottom- evidently from a previous repair of some sort.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A rattling noise has developed in the left door. It can be heard when the music plays and also a little bit if you drive fast. It doesn't come from the loudspeaker in the door, but more from the area where the lock is located.
Any idea of what this is?
Just a guess, the window regulator gets zip tied to a pillar inside the door. If the regulator was replaced it's common to skip that final step and a rattle will develop.
Im interested as well. I've had a similar rattle for about a year. There is def something loose in there!
Does anyone have a DIY to pull the door apart. The airbag makes me a little leery...
The only thing difficult about removing the door panel is not breaking a clip on the pull. It's a foregone conclusion that the upper front door clip will break and Porsche recommends replacing it when removing the door panel.
Pull off the outer part of the pull.
Remove the screw behind
Pull off the silver airbag plastic cover
Remove the screw.
Pull the handle and remove the screw behind.
Pull of the panel from the edges, a door panel removal tool will help.
There will be the micro switch and light cable connected behind the panel which needs to be unclipped, and the handle cable needs to be unclipped.
Remove the panel back and up.
The regulators are replaced often. In the center of the door, there is a vertical pillar. The regulator gets zip tied to this about half way up.
These instructions are for replacing the window regulator but they include how to remove the door panel.

I had the same symptoms, and mine turned out to be a loose (unattached) screw. The speaker's bass exacerbates the problem as it causes the rattle. Using the radio turned up can help you locate the loose item when you pull off the inside door panel. (there's a DIY somewhere, I believe). I didn't remove the plastic liner all the way as mine was torn at the bottom- evidently from a previous repair of some sort. I was able to put my arm inside the liner and feel for the loose item. Anyways, I found the loose screw- then dropped it into the bottom of the door, but the day was saved by a flexible magnet that retrieved the screw (which was out of sight and unreachable). Turns out it was the first screw removed/last screw to be replaced and someone must have previously dropped it inside the door, didn't remove it, and then just got another. HACK!!
It was a MAJOR annoyance, but I was glad to fix it. BTW- take care of the inside of your door panel- do not lay it face down as the silver door handle is easily scratched.
I also have a rattle in the driver side door that sounds like a screw fell out. Drives me insane! Is the "plastic" liner that grey foam covering the inside of that Boxster door? Would any screw that fell out be inside that liner? I would hate to pull the door panel off to find nothing!
I'll also have to buy me one of those 9V battery gizmos that save radio code and computer settings. Anyone remember where those are available (Pep Boys perhaps)?
If you're careful, you can slowly peel off the grey foam liner. Use a hairdryer around the edges to heat up the adhesive. Comes off much easier that way. Saves you some $$ and a trip to the stealership.
Use the hairdryer again to put it back on.
Make sure the screws that hold the hinge to the door are tight. I had a similar noise in the door that got worse when the window was down. It turned out that the Torx bolt that holds the door to the frame had loosened. Easy fix if this is the problem!
