Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, I remember reading about how to clean an MAF sensor.
Leading evidence: 'Clean mass air flow sensor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean mass air flow sensor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I am assuming it is the MAF sensor fault, but not sure how I find out without going to the dealership or a repair shop.

I have the 'orange' one exactly like the local Auto Zone uses, except that I bought it at a Sears H/W store.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
The other night, I took the engine up to near 7K RPM in 1st gear while having some fun with a friend (not redlined, which is 7K and over). Then, the engine light came on and has stayed on; solid, not blinking.
The car felt normal and idled fine, etc. When I bought the car, the owner told me the light comes on sometimes due to the K&N filter. I have not yet put the stock airbox back on as I need to order some grommets and misc. parts for it (not trying to ignite another debate on K&N filters here).
So, my question is, is there a way to decipher the code (or CEL?) without the read-out tool? I had an old car that you could read the number of blinks to the engine light when you turned the key back and forth three times in order to read the fault. Or can I take it to Autozone? I am assuming it is the MAF sensor fault, but not sure how I find out without going to the dealership or a repair shop.
Last, if it is the intermittent MAF fault, how long does it take to cycle through the fault before it clears. I thought I read somewhere five drive cycles?
Thanks!
You can disconect the battery to clear the code. But you may need your radio code for the radio to work again.
Autozone will have a code reader and you can post the code here. Not sure if they can clear the code.
Advance Auto Parts will read and clear a code using their own reader. Recommend you spend the 80 bucks to get one if possible. I have the 'orange' one exactly like the local Auto Zone uses, except that I bought it at a Sears H/W store.
Ok. I have two codes - P1123 and P1125. According to Volkswagen codes, these are both MAF issues (Autozone had no codes for Porsche).
If anyone can confirm this for me, that would be appreciated.
Also, I remember reading about how to clean an MAF sensor. Maybe soaking overnight in break cleaner or CRC MAF cleaner? Can someone give me advice on this, and how to remove the MAF from a K&N filter?
Thanks,
Todd
Hey Todd.. the MAF just screws into the intake tube between the filter and the throttle body... takes 30 seconds to remove it...its the only thing with a wire attached to it on the big tube....
