Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know I should get myself some real problems, like rear main seal failure, but such is the tawdriness of life that I'm stuck with not being able to get the damn key back together after replacing the battery.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know I should get myself some real problems, like rear main seal failure, but such is the tawdriness of life that I'm stuck with not being able to get the damn key back together after replacing the battery. The cover just WILL NOT snap into place and stay put. Any advice? Does anyone know what the spring inside the key is for? Is this supposed to be a spring-loaded mechanism for holding the key cover on? If so, it won't budge on my key. The small square "release button" (if that's what is is) seems to be a non-moving part. I've tried pulling it AND pushing it, to no avail. Any advice welcome before I resort to Crazy Glue.

POST 2Original post

I think that the PCB assembly with battery should be put into the top half (with the rubber buttons) first, then that piece is snapped onto the bottom half of the key with that contains the actual metal "key" part and the little RFID glass bubble device. Don't know what the spring is for http://lancej.blogspot.com/2007/12/p...placement.html

POST 3Original post

The little spring holds in the RFID chip. I hope you did not lose that. $$$$$

Bingo! Thanks a million for that advice. It worked! (Great little video, too, for us boneheads.)

POST 5Original post

I searched it on Google. The search on Rennlist is too difficult. This has been covered here before.

POST 6Original post

The spring is a part of the latch mechanism for the key 'blank'; the metal part. HTH

OT: What does it take to get the trunk release button to work?
