Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

..I removed my passenger side Litronic today to replace a busted headlight washer assembly. My question is: what does that cable 'release'? If it's the hood, you gotta' be in the trunk to remove the headlight??? I could have sworn that I removed and reconnected TWO different manuel cables when I replaced my hood latch mechanism yesterday. The cable that was 'hidden' was nearly impossible to see unless you knew where to look for it.
OK it is late, but I can not understand your question. What cable? There is an emergency release inside the trunk...for safety reasons (I believe all cars have an emergency release inside the trunk.) I don't understand what is underlined?
well you do have to be in the trunk to remove the headlight (legally and with the standard tools), since the access panel for the tool is in the trunk
I'm not sure which cable you're referring to , but in the mk2 cars at least the headlight tool just seems to rotate a latch assembly
Cable is supposed to be hidden and a biatch to find. Access is not gained from headlight side. The subject is being discussed a lot lately and is not a great thing to share in public form.
PM responses that discuss exact details for the security of all. Just my opinion.
The
In order to remove the headlight, the trunk lid has to be open & how can anybody crammed into a 996 trunk figure out how to remove the headlight to access the end of the manual release - especially since an adult will not fit in a 996 trunk.
Our cars have two emergency latch releases. One up front (the one you found) to open the Hood and one in the rear to open the Engine lid. It has been discussed here a million times. Relocate them somewhere that you can reach w/o taking the car apart but still be secure.
One 4th of july I had to frantically remove my bumper to rescue the steaks out of my 996 trunk that refused to open. The release cable since then is tucked up somewhere that I can reach with a bare hand but out of sight.
Actually there are three...there is one reachable exterior to the front compartment (accessible if the electronics fail), the rear cable and the emergency release if you get stuck inside the front compartment with the lid closed...impossible as that may sound it is a DoT requirement for all cars (trunk entrapment).
HMMM, I've searched my trunk all over, and there is no trunk entrapment release for sure in my MY02. If it's THAT hard to find, then it is useless. The usual one under the fender liner is there, tho. Maybe Porsche got an exception since there is just no way anyone except a baby could fit in the trunk.
