After pulling up on the release handle next to the drivers seat, I then have to slide my finger tips under the hood edge and gently/firmly pull up to get the hood to pop up, then I use the little lever to fully open it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

32 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well we got to the beach and my electronic hood release "buzzed" but didnt "pop". I talked to friends and family AND the dealer and all i got was "it should be in the fender well by the headlight" i looked on BOTH sides and found no release. any suggestions from someone who KNOWS where it is? thanks! case solved!

POST 2Original post

It is behind the wheel well passenger side...you will have to remove the wheel well cover to get easy access to it....you see it has to placed so it is not too easy (to keep thieves out) yet allow access eventually.

POST 3Original post

is the trunk full of stuff?? Maybe try pushing down on the trunk while "popping" the hood... see if it releases?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6827643

dude i pulled down the wheel liner and shined a flashlight in there. i looked all around the trunks firewall for some type of cable. maybe its up between the headlight and firewall where i cant see?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6827709

well it wasnt stuffed, but possibly a beach chair tilted forward and is jacked aginst the hood????? ( i did try what you mentioned by pushing down but didnt work) does the hood release pull down the hood a little IOT release?

POST 6Original post

Mine waas laying on the headlight tray... its a very small cable...

POST 7Original post

After pulling up on the release handle next to the drivers seat, I then have to slide my finger tips under the hood edge and gently/firmly pull up to get the hood to pop up, then I use the little lever to fully open it. For some reason it sticks ever since someone sat on my hood for a quick photo-op in the mall parking gargage. I ordered a new latching mecahnism from Sunset already... mk

POST 8Original post

Maybe you need a new hood ? I know where there is one

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 6828583

LOL! I hope not - yet...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i wish porsche would go back to mechanical! i will look for the cable again when i get home thursday morning. (passenger side, right ivangene?) I will also try pushing down on the hood while my wife pulls the switch.

POST 11Original post

So do you understand the dilemma? If it is too easy to find, anyone can find it...it has to be a little difficult as I already stated....if you have one it is there. It is quite possible you need the latch adjusted hood latch renntech

POST 12Original post

I cannot PM pics... send me your email and I will send a picture of the location taken with my front end off - you can see the cable

POST 13Original post

I always thougth mine was a cable release that you activate next to the drivers seat??? Or is the lever an electronic release??? I gotta' look at mine closer now.

POST 14Original post

We are discussing the emergency entrance cable - not the one you use M-F getting groceries

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6829952

duuuuhhhh Sorry...I inadvertantly hijaked then - shame on me

POST 16Original post

With the front part of the wheel well liner off, it is IN the passenger fender, up towards the hood, but not that high. It does work it's way into a crevice, but is easily retrieved. Easier if the wheel is off.

POST 17Original post

Marlon, mis-understanding does not constitute hyjacking no problem

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6829902

early (pre 01 i think) had a manual cable for the luggage compartment. My year (01) was first year for electronic compartment release. if Dr. Porsche were alive he would not stand for everything going electronic!!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6830065

believe me i looked all over the effin place! It had to have slid up into a crack. also=my car was in a minor front end accident (2 previous owners ago). im pretty sure the bumper cover was replaced. but there is a chance it wasnt put back and or was damaged. like i said earlier i will be working on it thursday the 20th am. jacking up and all!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6830065

oh ok. where do you keep your wheel lock so i can take the tire off?

POST 21Original post

should be in with the jack - inserted inside the spare

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

uh yeeeeeeeah meanwhile back in the batcave===== I got it!!!!!! the cable was no where in sight. i had to feel into the dark. but i got it! yeah! now to fix the problem.= my release cable is loose so it has broke or failed around the pull motor. thanks for the help guys. ill post when i get the motor uncovered.

POST 23Original post

What have we learned here about photo opportunities and Porsche aluminum hoods...

POST 24Original post

so its open .... right ?? OH - hahaha I just thought about the wheel lock... that wont work will it - anyhow if its open make sure you have the lock and know where it is for the future

POST 25Original post

My MY00 has the older manual style, and I'm glad! I can see having an electronic CLOSE feature (so you don't have to get a hand print on the hood to close it), but I can manually pull the lever when I want my hood or trunk opened, thank you Dr. Porsche!

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 6832982

Bah!! I am VERY fond of the remote release on my key for the trunk! And thie manual handles take such a beating.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6832688

lol! yeah i know yes it is open now. i have a broken release cable. will need to order one. The evil artifact can now be locked in the warehouse Artie!

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 6833014

At least you can buy one of thoese cool "911" keys with the trunk release, and actually open the trunk with it.

POST 29Original post

Do you live somewhere that you think really needs wheel locks? I ditched mine as soon as I bought the car. No one is going to steal Porsche wheels around here, and I want to be able to take the wheel off anytime I want. Replacement bolts from the dealer were like $4 each, a no brainer for me. And I actually now have 2 sets cause I bought 7mm spacers from FVD with longer bolts. Hey Torontoworker..the hood is steel, or else Porsche invented magnetic aluminum...

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 6833744

What- you have a steel hood.... I would be pissed

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 6833289
