Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

From an "as stock" standpoint, the STi has overly soft springs more suited to running off pavement.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Figured I would say hello!
Been reading the board off and on for about a year or so now. Finally sold my '06 STi and picked up a '99 C2! Could not be happier so far. The car is just so much more fun to drive.
Car has almost no trim options. The option codes indicate that it has the traction control/limited slip diff options and that is about it other than the code for the 18" Tech Art wheels which appear to have gone missing at some point within its 10 year life (has 17s on it now).
Now for the stupid questions (as I am missing the owners manual..grrr...)
How do I adjust the clock? It seems like common sense, and I got the numbers to start blinking once, but have not figured out what I did when I was randomly pushing buttons.
There is a green light to the right of the tach in the cluster that looks like a gauge w an arrow pointed to it that is on. What the heck is this? I don't remember it being on when I test drove the vehicle, but I could be mistaken.
Also: I did not have Porsche do an inspection. Yes, my bad, and hopefully I do not regret it.
Its raining outside and dark, so a poor dealer picture will have to do for the new car. Will post more latter when its nice (and daytime) out.
New car!
The old car. Lots into the body, suspension, and full headers/exhaust but never went larger turbo. Decided to build a Tarmac look/clone of the WRC car. No emotional attachment for the last year after I decided I just had to have a 996.
oh boy -
welcome!!!
So get a manual, they come up on ebay all the time ~$40 IIRC, then read it... Push the button on the end of the cruise to turn the green light on and off (Tim is going to bust you on this one
)
clock - with ignition ON press adjustment button for about one second - hour display flashes - turn in appropriate dirrection (right increase, left decrease) - press button again - minute flashes - repeat turn, same as hours... press again to exit (automatic exit after 1 minute)
where are you from? How many miles on the car? Nice looking ride - congrats!!!
Welcome to the forum! You're going to love it... Be prepared to make frequent trips to the garage just to ensure yourself that you actually have one.
Enjoy in good health!
Rudy
I had larger rear sway bar, KW V3 coilovers and a few other parts on the STi and even then the Porsche still fells tighter, more capable, much better road feel, and a LOT more nimble than the STi. Its a night and day difference. Getting used to the weight bias of the new car is a bit awkward though. From an "as stock" standpoint, the STi has overly soft springs more suited to running off pavement. It pushes, and lots of body roll.
I will probably miss the extra 60-70 hp mine had and the 100+ ft/lbs of torque at some point, but realistically I didn't open it up that often anyway. I would rather find a fun curvy road to enjoy at (somewhat) reasonable speeds.
The Sti was extremely easy to find the limits, and was very forgiving if pushed too far. It felt like anyone could drive it fast with very little practice or skill. The C2... well I'm very apprehensive of pushing it until I hit a few AutoX events where I can mess up in a closed course/safe environment. I was never afraid of the STi's bite, the C2 freaks me out right now, hehe.
Have not driven one of the '08+ STi models (taller gear ratios and more creature comforts (even SOUND DEADENING as I understand it), but if you don't mind rowing a boat the STi makes a great daily driver. The super close ratio 6 speed will leave you shifting CONSTANTLY. For the winter: Throw some dedicated snow tires on it and even headlight high snow on a hill wont slow you down. City traffic will kill your gas budget though. Even without putting your foot into the gas, one 16 gallon tank will maybe last 200 miles. Also makes every 16 year old kid give you all the wrong kind of attention once they see that huge wing. Expect lots and lots of attempts at starting a race.
Bang for the buck, better off with one of the newer 08+ WRX's due to the quickly diminishing differences between the 2 models. Its no longer the rally bred special car it once was. Why is leather even an option?!? hehe
Thanks!
Madison, WI. 68k miles on the car. Higher than what I would have liked, but the price was right for me. There are a few flaws (cracked paint on front bumper and a chipped headlight) that are absolutely going to drive me crazy until I fix them.
Worked at a custom body/paint/high performance shop for a while and I would constantly fix any little perceived flaw in my cars long after the time investment and result was worth it, hehe.
If you keep the amber blinkers those headlights can be found fairly cheap for descent pre-owned - if you go clear figure double or more of the Abmer cost for a set of pre-owned - Litronics $1k (pre-owned) -
If it is the corner triangle that are replacable otherwise its the whole assy - new prices are best if you use Sunset Porsche in Oregon - they are excellent and ship quick.
New is nearly 3x the pre-owned price -
68k is good... too low is as bad as too high in some people opinions - middle is good
Welcome to Rennlist and congrats on getting your P-car! Thanks for the pics.
