Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also read recently online of major car manufacturer (Honda) having to extend warranties for that same reason because of class action against them, the odometers ran fast and warranty work was denied based on mileage.
Leading evidence: 'Run fast and warranty work was denied based' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check vin#' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought my 02 996 C2 last October. It was exported from California. I had no clue how many previous owners it had before it arrive Taiwan I am assuming 2 ~ 3? I know the car went to a 2nd dealership in Taiwan then I know someone bought it and drove it for a year+ or something. Then I got my hands on it. I have been always thinking is my DME correct. I went to 3 porsche shops and plugged the computer. The DME shows 1.5k miles less than my odometer. Currently it's reaching 50000km on it ( 31000miles ) I asked all these shops and they said it's normal for the computer off showing 1.5k miles difference. I still find it fishy. Therefore I kind of bought my car in such a rush which makes me kind of regret now.
1. The odometers can be easily adjusted
2. The DME may be purchase at salvage yard from a totaled car
3. Perhaps someone here can help me check my VIN#
4. Every shop I go they claim the car has no accident before. Who knows?
I remember reading something about the Porsche speedometers tending to be inaccurate by a few MPH, I wonder if this discrepencey may be related to that as well, but I have no idea. But thinking that if my speedo runs almost 5 mph faster than car was traveling and odometer calculated mileage from info that speedo generates, while DME calculates mileage differently??? that would explain less mileage and no worries about tampering.
May not be the answer, but it is interesting to ponder. I know both my speedos run fast. I also read recently online of major car manufacturer (Honda) having to extend warranties for that same reason because of class action against them, the odometers ran fast and warranty work was denied based on mileage. Perhaps your odometer just is miscalibrated and thus the extra miles.
Yes, in my past experience. I think the gauge meter tends to go 7km/h faster than the real speed you're driving with a GPS showing the speed difference.
Speedometers read high, or at least the ones on European cars do. My C2 reads 5kph high, the Rover 3 kph. Supposedly, this is deliberate, and supposedly the DME knows the true speed (this was the case with BMWs, anyway). It seems plausible that the odometer and speedo are related, and therefore not implausible that the odometer and the DME might not agree on how far the car has traveled.
Get someone to do a cafax for you. You should be able to get the car history while it was in the US. It will show all changes in ownership with reported mileage plu other information. You can sign up for carfax yourself over the internet and for a small fee get the information for your car. That might help fill in some of the blanks.
