Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had the air mass sensor replaced & the DME updated to the latest map b/c of some throttle tip in stumble.
Leading evidence: 'Replace & the dme updated' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check belts or anything' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

On the MAF, I had mine replaced a few months ago after the CEL came on and really did notice a difference in power afterwards.

They changed the oil, plugs, etc whatever was recommended at 30k for $850 + change.

Suggestion
The belt is checked for wear, but this is nothing special, and is something the owner should be doing anyway as a matter of pre-flight checks.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I just took the car in for the 30K service and hmm.. I guess it's good because things seem to start failing around this mileage. I was told that I need a new MAF since my check engine light has been coming on and off.
Quick question. Will the performance improve at all with a new MAF? The car seemed faster when I picked it up initially.
All Pro Imports in Ocala is a great shop. They are taking care of me 100% and they charge a lot less then the other Porsche authorized shops around Florida. $600 for the 30k service on a 2000 C2 is the best price I found in Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, or Gainesville.
FYI, paid $850 at a dealer in LA for the 30k service.
On the MAF, I had mine replaced a few months ago after the CEL came on and really did notice a difference in power afterwards. Apparently if the MAF goes, the DME puts out a standard program that still allows you to drive, but not at normal performace levels. Other, more technically adept guys, should have plenty of input on this.
Good luck.
Orient Express, It's an 01 tip coupe with 32k on the clock under CPO warranty until 10/06. They changed the oil, plugs, etc whatever was recommended at 30k for $850 + change. The service was performed at the dealership where I bought the car.
I'm hearing that I should shop around the independents, right?
up here in the NW the 30K is about 700.00 (100.00 less than the dealer) for a really good local shop.
So MAF's fail about this time (I have 31K miles), huh?
I said that my power would be better because of this statement:

I feel like my acceleration isn't as good as before.
The 01 996 C2 does not require a plug change until 60,000 miles or 4 years. Nothing wrong with doing it earlier, except that you spend for something that is not needed, and probably won't see any performance change.
Your MAF was done under warranty so that should have not cost you anything, so in the end you got a $600 oil change.
I would encourage you to change your own oil at 45K. Oil, filter, and Pollen filter will cost you about $85, and an hour and a half of your time to change. An independent shop will charge you almost as much as a dealer.
DIY instructions and photos are here.
But in the end, it is your money to do with what you want. I prefer to keep as much of it as I can and spend it on things I want. The only things I go to the dealer for are warranty items.
If you don't hear any strange noises coming from the car, and the CEL is not on, then you have performed the same visual check that a dealer would have performed. There is even a light to tell you your brake pads are in need of replacement.
My MAF sensor went under warranty about 20k miles. I do oil analsysis from time to time. I had excessive gas in the oil. After fixing the MAF the problem has not reoccurred. This would make sense as the engine control computer would fail safe and make car too rich to avoid burning valves and pistons.
I have a 00 C2 Cab, therefore my spark plugs did have to be replaced. I believe that I am also out of warranty because the car was purchased in July of 2000. So it's been a little more than 4 years even though the mileage is low.
Isn't there any other work done at the 30k mark other than the oil/filter change, pollen filter and spark plugs? Don' they check belts or anything?
Thanks for the tips and prices. I have 24k and at the rate I am going I won't hit 30K for another year. By then the prices will go up and I will find just the reason to sell the 96 and buy a 97!!! It doesn't take much for me to buy another Porsche.
The maintenance includes the tech doing a once over looking for obvious leaks, damage, etc. The belt is checked for wear, but this is nothing special, and is something the owner should be doing anyway as a matter of pre-flight checks.
Just had the first one year service with 9000 miles.
I had the air mass sensor replaced & the DME updated to the latest map b/c of some throttle tip in stumble. The new code improved that but the engine seemed to have lost some of it's rip. My loaner was a 1.8 Passat and I had expected to be overwhelmed by P-power. After a few days of driving the butt-O-meter registered we are now back to full tear, so I guess something re-programmed it's self or the cold dense air kicked in, who knows, but I'm happy.
