Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use gt3' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run 14 track events a year' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Don't get me wrong, I am madly in love with my C4S, but for "mainly track use" GT3 is the best choice, but the 997S I hear comes close to it with some creature comforts like PSM, PASM etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

considering selling my pristine 930 for either new 997 or 996 c4s for mainly track use. i like the HP with the 997s but is it better to have C4S for less money and spend extra money on upgrading 996? can you get the same hp out of the 996 with out getting completely into the engine? im sure there are shocks out there that can easliy match the 997 suspension?
Key is the phrase "for mainly track use". That's says GT3 right there. It's a roadworthy track car.
The other way around I'd go with the 997S. To emphasize, get the SSSSSS. -S-. The S makes it a trackworthy road car right out of the box. No S on the 997, then you're better off with the C4S on the track. And that's the opinion of an owner and C4S devotee.
Here's a thread you may find interesting:
GT3 vs 997S
Why would the maintenance on a GT3 be any more than anyother 996?
Not likely unless you get ceramics and manage to trash them.
The transmission has steel syncros, the engine is higher revving and the suspension is tweaked so it should be more purposeful and therefore require less maintenace (upgrading)
You might be thinking about the GT3 cupcars which essentially have racing engines, etc and require a rebuild after 50 hours (I think).
GT3. No doubt about it. Purpose built car. Drysump oil system. Designed for the track. Better engine than the street 996 and 997 put together.
The 997 GT3 will be out early next year. 3.6L. 400hp.
I doubt there will even be a 997 GT3, you may have to wait for the 998 GT3. But, only Porsche knows for sure and as far as I know they have not yet commited to a 997 GT3.
The 997 is supposedly an interim model, and if this is true..no GT3 version in NA!
Eventhough GT3 is the better track car, test drive both GT3 and the 997S, and pick what is best for you. There are some in similar situations, who have chosen a 997S over the GT3. I'd keep your 930 since the main reason to go with 996/997 is if you want a more civilized ride and modern electronics. If you want better suspension, just upgrade your 930.
