I have used braided steel brake lines on a number of my motorcycles over the years and always had good results the brakes feel stronger and I never had any problems with feeling as some people have intimated, in fact probably the opposite

I was told by my shop (when I was doing some club racing about 10 years ago) that I should change the steel lines every two years because you can't inpect the inside of the steel lines.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don't know if anyone else has done these...but I just got my set of Agency Power steel braided brake lines. Anyone else put these on? Doing the install of these and my B&M shifter tomorrow. Here is a pic of the lines -

POST 2Original post

Since you have already got them I will reserve judgement other than all the performance shops I have asked say to stay away from them since you cannot tell when the brake line is starting to deteriorate (line is shielded by the braid) as well there is less flex in the line.

POST 3Original post

I also heard Steel Braided lines where not good for regular street driving...

POST 4Original post

braided are superior strength and dont flex, thereby providing stronger and more consistent braking..thats the point of getting them. they are stainles steel, what deterioration do you mean?

POST 5Original post

stronger lines, stronger pressure and more consistent..sounds good to me

POST 6Original post

They are NOT steel. They are steel braids over the regular lines. The steel braids help protect the lines and restrict flex. As for not flexing, you are correct but it is more difficult for the novice driver to get a feel for breaking because of the lack of flex.

POST 8Original post

Sorry, forgot to address the deterioration question. The deterioration, defect, or any damage to the brake line is not noticeable since it is shielded by the steel braid.

POST 10Original post

ss lines as i know them dont cover the rubber line...i havent heard of just a cover. on race cars and racebikes they are braided steel with teflon or PTFE inside

POST 11Original post

Usually it is a Teflon inner line covered by a stainless steel braid.

POST 12Original post

Flex...? Braking....??? Methinks the discussion should be about brake line "ballooning" under pressure. Steel braiding allows just as much of that as without. I think steel braided brake lines are much more about preventing damage from road debris than having any real effect on braking dynmaics.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The lines are teflon with steel braided and a coating. The lines do not flex, that is why people put them on instead of the regular factory lines which are rubber and flex under pressure. The steel braided lines improve pedal response and braking, only positive things come from them. Anyone else want to try them...I will get another set so you can leave your feedback. All I can say is why do all big brake kits include them and why are they a highly sold aftermarket part. They work...!

POST 14Original post

Then the question I would ask is why doesn't Porsche have them on our cars? I would venture to say there is a reason. Now if the car is used for tracking most of the time, then I could understand. But then again, inspection is impossible since the actual line is shielded from the braid thus requires you to change them more frequent in a proactive way to avoid catastrophic failure. I considered them listening to all the hype and realized that not many people used them nor did any of the performance (Porshe) shops around here reccommend them when I asked for their professional advice about putting them in when I put in my new reds (calipers).

POST 15Original post

I heard that since steel brake lines don't flex as much, the lines have a tenancy to loosen from the caliper over time. That is why they don't come as standard on any production car. Since race and track cars are looked over more frequently, its okay for race use. On a daily driver, the driver rarely if ever checks his brake lines(except for the nuts on this forum). I don't think that the tradeoff is really worth it. The benefit of higher pressure, etc. will prob only be felt at the limit of braking and driving, not in daily driving. Bobby

POST 16Original post

vivid, are you here to advertise your business? I mean, I respect people using forums to get their business across, but I smell a bit of fishing here. I could be wrong.

POST 18Original post

I have stainless steel braided brake hoses on my GT3 (since this is a P car forum) without any negative side effects. I have run this type of hoses on all my street, race and track cars over the years and never had a problem. Should there be a fault of the teflon hose, it would show on the braiding as a "sweating" that collected dirt/dust. There is no risk of loosening or leak at the connection point to the brakeline and caliper since the connection is of banjo type. vividracing trying to market his products is totally different issue. Ciao, Johannes E.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not marketing at all! Go check the site they are not on there. I am super NEW to Porsche. We have been involved in JDM cars and trying to get others advice, opinions, and feedback. What works on other cars does not on these. I had a 450WHP EVO VIII amongst my other cars (RX8, 2 WRX's, R32, M3). With the turbo car you can put a turbo back exhaust on the car and gain 30WHP...with these cars not the same. So I am just learning and asking questions As far as advertising we have applied with the admin for a advertising contract, so we are playing by the rules when the time comes. thanks!

POST 20Original post

FWIW. I have used braided steel brake lines on a number of my motorcycles over the years and always had good results the brakes feel stronger and I never had any problems with feeling as some people have intimated, in fact probably the opposite

POST 21Original post

I was told by my shop (when I was doing some club racing about 10 years ago) that I should change the steel lines every two years because you can't inpect the inside of the steel lines. To the best of my memory, the brake paddle feel was not that much better then the rubber lines. Now, that was my experience 10 years ago. Newer steel lines might be better now. Just my 2 cents. Kam

POST 22Original post

Check this site out. http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Performance/brakelines.htm He does a good job of expalining the pros and cons of SS brake lines. If Ferrari, Porsche, M-series, AMG, etc aren't using them as stock I doubt I will. I don't think the safety to performance ratio is worth it. Imagine the law suit you would have on your hands after crashing into another car on a public street because your SS brake lines failed. Just don't want to deal with that for the marginal performance gain. Bobby
