I remember a 350 engine I had that would lose power after it had been running for 10 minutes or so.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I picked up my car from an independent service facility a few days ago and drove it home (3 hrs). Not long after that I started to notice the much talked about oil spots on the garage floor. When I checked the oil level, it was about a 1/4" above the full mark. The question to those of you who have the experience: Could there be a connection? Can overfilling cause more pressure and therefore an RMS leak? What other damage can overfilling do? At this pont I am assuming that I have an RMS leak and I will book the car into the Porsche dealer to have it checked out. Are there driving restrictions on a car with an RMS leak? Warranty is a good thing, right? The unfortunate part is the distance to the dealer. Thanks to all.

POST 2Original post

From what I know, overfilling your oil wont create any new oil leaks. You need not take any special precautions while driving the car.

POST 3Original post

A quart extra of oil should not cause you any problems. However, it is better to be a quart low than a quart over. In extreme cases, such as having a quart or more too much in the engine, you may experience oil seepage around the oil pan and may even blow a Spark Plug Oil Protection Pipe O-Ring. You will most defininatly have poor performance of the engine...as much as a 10% drop in power as the pressure in the engine is increase and the crank is drowning in oil. I remember a 350 engine I had that would lose power after it had been running for 10 minutes or so. There was subsequently a recall on the dip stick. Apparently, it was the wrong one and when it showed filled, it had 1 quart too much oil. New dipstick and proper oil level fixed the power problem.
