Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: removed the black bumper things, pictures on page 2! I bought a 2001 carrera 4 with 37 000 miles on it 8 weeks ago. I live in Norway and i bought the car from New Porsche of greenwich. I recived the car 2 days ago and I am very happy. It has been a long wait!!!!!! I have allready bought grey/white blinkers and will install them before thursday. the wheels that are on now will be the winter tires and i will buy sports technos in 18 or 19. If I buy 19 i thing I have to lower the car and that cost a lot of money and the car will be illegal!! This is the car: In Norway we dont need the black things you have on the bumper so i will remove thos during the next week. What type of exhaust system do I have?? somebody have stolen the ash-tray

POST 2Original post

Congrats on your purchase. Beware of removing the "black things" you will find holes in the bumper underneath. Why not just have them painted?

POST 4Original post

Congrats. Enjoy your new ride. The interior looks excellent with the white dials and the 3 spoke steering wheel.

POST 5Original post

Looks good! However, I thought EU spec cars don't have the rear bumperettes?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ray S: I know but euro cars dont have so i will remove them. We have done it before an it will looks smooth. Will post a picture after. Dreamcarrera: It it not white! I know it looks white but it is alu like the consoll, i am not so shure about it!. Arneea: the car is a uscar from CT and NY, have imported it and recived it 2 days ago. Bought it 8 weeks ago.. Anyone know what type of exhaust i have, is it original?

POST 7Original post

Congrats on the P-car! The tips do not look original. John

POST 8Original post

You can tell it's a US car just from the wheelwell gaps. Is it less expensive to import than buy local? I've never seen a painted center console except in cabs...very nice

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how can you se on the wheelwell gaps? tomorrow I am going to tax th car in and pay the goverment what they "need". The final price is going to be a littel over 100 000 USD for my car!!! With my milage the car cost moro or less 120 000. that means i can have the car for 1 year and sell it for the same! I hope for that...

POST 10Original post

Those are the same chrome exhaust tips that I have on my C4 the previous owner said he upgraded to those at a cost 0f $600.00 when the car was new. He didn't like the stock ones, they were too plain!!

POST 11Original post

Congratulations Andreas7 It is painted arctic silver and it does look great, especially with a black interior and the white dials. You got yourself a very nice 996! I look forward in seeing the pictures with those black things gone, I am sure it will be a smoother look.

POST 12Original post

Congatulations!! I actually saw it at the dealer when I was loking at a C4S. (I'm hating the exchange rate right now - my wife is Swiss - I don't want to travel there.) It looks great Enjoy it. Best of luck!! Eric

POST 13Original post

Andreas....CONGRATS!!! So glad you finally got your car...it looks fantastic. Can't believe how much those cars are where you live. I'll help any of your buddies find a car here...we can make some moola in the meantime. I know the owner of the dealer you purchased from...they are very good over there. Your center console is painted to match the exterior...another pretty expensive option....about $800. Also, where is your ashtray? Love the wheels you've got. If you plan on driving the car in the snow...you will LOVE it. Again, Congrats!! J

Yes...not the most common...I have a painted console...C4S....non cabrio. Seal gray....soooo sweet. Makes the interior. J

POST 15Original post

The car looks great Andreas. I also prefer the original black guages, but the silver console pops (that's a good thing). Importing vehicles can be tricky, Germans have to calculate duties and Mehrwertsteur (VAT), etc, I guess that's part of the total cost you're referring to.... Have fun and enjoy the car. Post some pics later with your car around your home town!

POST 16Original post

Stock euro cars have less gap between the tires and the fender lip. USA cars have approx 1 -2 cm longer shock travel & springs for a softer ride. Apparantly Stuttgart thinks all Americans are soft and can't handle a real suspension...

Not to mention sensitive...I do believe our roads might also play a role in this

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have now recived it from the paint guy we have at work an he has removd the black bumper thing.(what is it called?) And I have debaged the car, removed the carrera 4 sign and the orange indicator lights are gone. The next week I am going to take a service and look over the car with a mechanic. If the car is as good as I think I will lower it and buy 19 inch. Her are som cellphone pictures of the "paint" job. Before: After: And I have to questions: Is the oil level ok, when it is just below 2? And do anyone know about a used painted ashtray, somebody has stolen mine.

POST 19Original post

Nice job on the bumper. If you don't smoke, you can get a painted insert for storage instead of an ashtray from http://bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html .

POST 20Original post

Congrats Andreas7! +1 on the "smoker delete" console unit painted to match by Bumper Plugs. Your oil pressure looks normal if the pic was taken with the engine at idle speed. The pressure should rise as engine rpm rises. A basic rule of thumb is that you should have minimum 1 bar pressure for every 1k rpm when the engine is at operating temp. Oil pressure will be higher when the engine is cold. Your exhaust tips are indeed a factory option and are known as "Big Ovals". As for your actual exhaust system, if you can take a couple of pics we may be able to identify it for you.

POST 22Original post

Nice looking C4 Andreas7, looks even better with the bumperettes removed...much cleaner looking.Have fun driving your new Porsche and welcome to the club.

POST 23Original post

How did they fill the holes in the rear bumper?

POST 24Original post

Looks great, Andreas. So the dealer in the US was called "New Country"? A bit ironic. The rear looks great with the bumper widgets removed. Probably look perfect then with your wider Norway plate?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I try to explain, if you guys dont understand that is because im am norwegian and cant translate everything!! They removed the thing i still dont know what is called! Took a BMW bumber and cut a piece that would fit in the hole. then they plastic welded it on place. Then they used spatula, and crush/grind it. And of course they painted it. I paid 600US for it! I work as a BMW salesman so it is perfect that I represent my company with a littel part of BMW!! Uberskier: thanks, there are some parts from bumperplugs soon on it way to Norway!
